I posted yesterday asking for short, timeless names for a girl to follow sisters Lily and Eve so sorry for another post but..

Tula? My 12 year old came out with it last night! At first I wasn't sure but having looked it up this name is rare!

Obviously that's probably because people don't like it but perhaps not many have heard of it? It's a variant of Tallulah (a name I'm not keen on) and means 'leaping water'. I've been looking for a name with meaning and as my name means 'white water' it's basically the same meaning!

So..thoughts? It's pronounced 'too la' not 'chu la'.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thank you! My first thought was Tula Rose then thought is it too similar to 'Tudor Rose'? Or am I being silly! A really simple mn makes sense for this name though

I've heard it before and love it!!

3luckystars · 22/02/2016 15:23

I like it! I was trying to think where I heard it and yes it was a sling I was looking up the other day!! Lots of names mean other things too, so if you like it go for it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/02/2016 15:24

I like it.

GinIsIn · 22/02/2016 16:11

Just going to flag up that there's a medical connotation - it's used by doctors as an shorter name for tularemia, which is a fairly grim flesh eating bacterial disease.....

Strokethefurrywall · 22/02/2016 17:03

I like it, go for it OP - very cute. I watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding again on Saturday night and laughed like a drain so it has only positive connotations for me.

TheFridgePickersKnickers · 22/02/2016 17:06

I think it's quite pretty.

NoCapes · 22/02/2016 17:09

Just sounds like a nickname to me
Thea is beautiful though and a real name

unicornthong · 23/02/2016 10:23

It's pretty but I think I prefer it pronounced 'Choola'; 'Toola' sounds a bit Sopranos. Blush

Nuala is sort of pronounced 'Noola', if you like that?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/02/2016 11:34

Not one I'm familiar with but I like it the more I say it.
Tula Jess
Tula Anne
or for a longer mn,
Tula Marianne.

thebiscuitindustry · 23/02/2016 11:37

Why would it be pronounced Choola? It starts with a t not a ch Confused

dustarr73 · 23/02/2016 12:00

I like it,goes with your other 2 names.Go for it.

Jw35 · 23/02/2016 12:50

I don't know how the sopranos are! Blush it's really growing on me now! I thought most comments would be negative but quite a few like it!

Thea is a nice name but doesn't really float my boat. I don't know I just think Tula is cute and pretty. I kind of like names that are a bit cutesy but don't want it to sound common and I think (but could be wrong) Tula ticks that box!

VoldysGoneMouldy · 23/02/2016 12:52

It's awful.

jamenhej · 23/02/2016 12:57

I like it! But also wanted to add the Swedish name Tuva into the mix for you!

handonhip · 23/02/2016 14:12

I'm a bit traditional normally but surprised myself when I realised I like Tula! I can visualise a beautiful, sunny child with this name.

Jw35 · 23/02/2016 20:34

Thanks these comments are so helpful! Smile I like traditional names too normally!

In our house 'the tula' is the baby carrier and I can't get past that I'm afraid.
Sort of reminds of Tulisa as well.

I do really like Tallulah though!

villainousbroodmare · 23/02/2016 20:39

I like Tula. It sounds happy.

Lottie2611 · 23/02/2016 20:50

It's really really pretty!

MooseyMouse · 23/02/2016 20:53

Also short for Petula. I like it.

ShyCharles · 23/02/2016 20:53

One of my best friends is called Tula, she is 40. I think it's a beautiful name.

MooseyMouse · 23/02/2016 20:54

Also Tula was a fab Hoob.

EssentialHummus · 23/02/2016 20:59

It's a common-ish Zulu name, I think it means "Quiet". Bonus culture points:

*As "Thula", same pronunciation.
