So our daughter finally arrived 10 days late in the car park outside the hospital! Thank you to everyone on here who helped us to choose her name, which we love. She will be Sylvie and registered as Sylvia. We just ran it by my MIL who hates it and was very rude about the whole thing. Mainly because she had already decided we were calling her Martha and has been banging on about it for months. Trouble is we don't like it!
Now we need a middle name to go with Sylvia so we can officially announce her name and drive it home to MIL that she's not getting her way. Any help with this? Nothing too popular please and also we think one syllable names work best with Sylvia. Xx

LOVE Sylvia Wren

Ham69 · 19/02/2016 23:19

The thing with middle names is they are so rarely used or known about. I personally don't care if they go, I like a good story behind them or to honour family members. So I present to you ... Sylvia Martha
Sorry if anyone else has suggested this, didn't read all responses.

DavenotChas · 19/02/2016 23:27

Sylvie Ellen would be beautiful. Congratulations Flowers

DavenotChas · 19/02/2016 23:30

Ooh, or Leigh, hadn't seen woolytights suggestion but Sylvie/Sylvia Leigh is magic Smile

ILoveACornishPasty · 19/02/2016 23:42

Harper. Topical today, obviously, and beautiful.

FlatOnTheHill · 19/02/2016 23:43

The name you have chosen is beautiful. MIL should feel happy and blessed she has a lovely granddaughter with a beautiful name.
Whats wrong with the woman

shutupandshop · 19/02/2016 23:45

Lovely name. Rose, vivianne, maria

PlaymobilPirate · 19/02/2016 23:52

Sylvia Wren is my favourite suggestion :-)

I also like Sylvia Rose, Sylvia Roisin, it also works with other 3 syllable names like Beatrice.

TheFridgePickersKnickers · 19/02/2016 23:59

Kate
Eve
Lynn
Paige
Clare
Faith

ScrambledSmegs · 20/02/2016 00:00

Joy is lovely, as is Wren. Sylvie Rae works well too. Also Faith or Hope came to mind, quite underused these days.

She could be Sylvie not Sylvia though - it's a wonderful name and made me think of Sylvie Guillem, the most wonderful ballet dancer I've ever seen, as well as some other very talented Sylvies.

ToomuchChocolatemeansBootcamp · 20/02/2016 00:07

LOVE Sylvie Wren! So poetic!

harrietm87 · 20/02/2016 10:59

I love Sylvia Mary. Agree with the poster who said an adult Sylvia would know how to tie a silk scarf - such an elegant name and I think goes with something slightly more traditional as a mm.

Fugghetaboutit · 20/02/2016 11:01

Haha my mil decided dd was called Isabella and told all her family Grin she's crackers though. Sylvie is lovely

shutupandshop · 20/02/2016 14:03

spillyobeans · 20/02/2016 17:36

Sylvia/sylvie wren is gorgeous

HeteronormativeHaybales · 20/02/2016 22:34

I would definitely go with Sylvia (not Sylvie). Gorgeous name.

I'm for Sylvia Jane - both classic and retro.
Breaking the two-syllable mould, how about Sylvia Charlotte? Or Sylvia Aurora, especially if she was an early morning birth?

Lancelottie · 20/02/2016 22:42

Has to be Sylvia Parker, surely?

ILoveACornishPasty · 20/02/2016 23:16

Come on op, don't leave us in suspenders!!

Louise43210 · 20/02/2016 23:20

Sylvia Dawn?

JudgeJudySheindlin · 20/02/2016 23:26

Congrats Cupcake!

I agree with those suggesting you register her as Sylvie. I personally think that's a beautiful name, but I've never been keen on Sylvia. Just my personal choice & I promise I'm not your MIL! My MIL was adamant we would not call our DS the name we chose & she wasn't happy when we stuck to our guns. Once he was registered she accepted she had lost the argument & has been fine ever since. I hope your in law is the same.

Now a middle name;
Sylvia Beth
Sylvia Rose
Sylvia Wren
Sylvia Mae
Sylvia Belle
Sylvia Grace
Sylvia Rae
Sylvia Rain
Sylvia Ruth

I've no doubt duplicated some, if not all the names. I'm sure you'll find the perfect choice for Sylvie within someone's post.

ChimpyChops · 20/02/2016 23:28

Love Sylvia Joy! Beautiful. Also Sylvia Fearne really stood out.

squoosh · 20/02/2016 23:41

Sylvia and Sylvie are stand alone names. Personally I much prefer Sylvia but if she's to be known as Sylvie day to day I don't see the point of registering her as Sylvia.

squoosh · 20/02/2016 23:45

whatevva 'Who is Silvia? what is she' is gorgeous, have never come across it before. I'd love for there to be such a gorgeous poem about my name!

Headofthehive55 · 20/02/2016 23:50

All my children have their proper registered name and a different version we use day to day. They all love it. Gives them choices, and an alter ego! Never caused any problem.

squoosh · 20/02/2016 23:55

Why do they need 'choices', is their everyday name really that bad?

I just have one name, the name on my birth cert, the name I'm known as. Works for me.
