Dennis?

DH would love to name DS after his grandfather. Dennis seems to be one of those grandad-chic names that hasn't come back and I'm not sure although pregnancy hormones mean it's a serious contender now when I wouldn't have considered it before.

I do genuinely like Denny and this would probably be what we would call him day to day.

So, is Dennis awful?

No, not at all. Much better than some names currently trending.

Soooosie · 04/02/2016 18:12

Love it! Denny is great too

tinofbiscuits · 04/02/2016 19:26

the Menace

and Den from Eastenders

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/02/2016 19:30

It's awful!

Like Barry. Or Norman. Or Trevor.

LavenderRain · 04/02/2016 19:31

I work in a neonatal unit and we recently had a Dennis, I think it's lovely.

BellaMoo · 04/02/2016 19:50

I was hoping for a unanimous opinion. This is no help!!

I am feeling very uninspired by boys names.

Only reason I don't like it is because I work
with a twat called Dennis and I associate the name with him

BellaMoo · 04/02/2016 20:22

Yes dontkill associating names with people is very off putting. I work in a school so have negative associations with quite a few names which is not helping!

Brilliant name. I knew a great adult Dennis a while back.

Denny is a nice NN too.

You're never going to get consensus on MN! Unless everyone hates it that is.

mathanxiety · 04/02/2016 20:40

I like it and encountered a small one recently, whose NN was Denny.

It would be unusual, though I think there are a few around. I would put it in the same category as Richard, rather than the Barry/Trevor/Norman club.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/02/2016 21:04

Im surprised it's getting anyone saying it's ok. I wouldn't use it. And it's nothing like Richard! I know quite a few Richards of all ages including several children, and I know only one Dennis (a 40 year old plumber). But I like Dennis Waterman, so it gets my approval after all.

Mouthfulofquiz · 04/02/2016 21:07

Dennis / Denny is great!

tinofbiscuits · 04/02/2016 21:16

If you don't mind changing one letter then Lenny is quite nice!

Sophronia · 04/02/2016 21:17

Love it, especially with Denny as a nn.

KP86 · 04/02/2016 21:17

Maybe as a middle name which your DS can be known by?

But I would definitely not name my DS Dennis, sorry.

HeyYouGetOffMyCloud · 04/02/2016 21:18

I love Dennis.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 04/02/2016 21:22

Very cute. There's a Dennis at my Dnephew's nursery

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/02/2016 21:24

mathanxiety you are in America arent you? I am so surprised about your Richard comment.

BikeRunSki · 04/02/2016 21:27

Menace

SaveSomeSpendSome · 04/02/2016 22:03

Why not just name him Denny if thats what he will be known as day to day

tangerinesarenottheonlyfruit · 04/02/2016 23:35

"Why not just name him Denny if thats what he will be known as day to day"

Would you like someone to explain the concept of nick names? Grin

Spartak · 04/02/2016 23:36

The Menace was the first thing that popped into my head.

Mclaren37 · 05/02/2016 00:05

Denny is a cute nn but I don't like Dennis at all. In the same camp as Trevor for me. But 10 years ago I would have said similar things about Arthur and now it's all the rage. So maybe you're just ahead of the times!

BellaMoo · 05/02/2016 07:21

Thanks everyone. I think I'm probably not brave enough even if we are just ahead of the times mclaren.
