Sibling for Vivienne Rose

DD is Vivienne Rose and just found out we are expecting DC2! It's early days but it took me more than nine months to settle on a name last time so would like to get a head start! I like quite unusual names for girls, but really classic names for boys. I also like a sweet Nn for use when they are little (we call DD Vivi).

Here's my (long) short list:

Vivienne and...

Xanthe (My no.1 favourite name but I worry about spelling/pron. Our surname is French and has to be spelt out already, so spelling both could be really annoying. Also in RL I've mentioned this name and had people go 'eh? Huh? What!?')
Adrianna (But can't think of a good nn, don't like Adie or Adri)
Persephone (Posy)
Claudia (Coco?? Might be pushing it!)
Roxana (Roxy)
Indiana or Indigo (Indi)
Astrid (Trixie?)
Seraphina (Fifi?)
Angelica (but don't like Angie)
Evangeline (but too many Evie's around)

Edward (Teddy)
Alexander (Xandy)
William (Will)

Any other suggestions very welcome,
Thank you.

Quentin (quin)
Florian (florrie)
Sascha
Walter

Florence (flora)
Theodora ( thea/ Dora)

Middle names:
Girls: Opal, Thalia, Nell,
Boys: Wyn, Sam, Eric

Pipilangstrumpf · 04/02/2016 14:27

Some brilliant names on this thread.

I really like
Ariadne (Aria)
Astrid
Leonora
Saskia
Antigone (Tiggy)

I find your boys names a little dull and don't like the shortenings Teddy or Will(y) at all.

I do like the suggestions of Leon, Dominic and Quentin or how about Roman or Cassius?

FelixFelix · 04/02/2016 14:34

My name is the first on your list (the X name). I'll be honest, it's a pain in the arse as I have to spell it constantly. I get called all sorts - mostly Xante, Xanthia, often Sandy (??) and I hate having to correct people and answer all the inane questions about my name when I meet someone new.

I've had nothing but nice comments about it though, and I do like being a bit unique (I've never met another one and most people say they have never heard the name before). I find that people tend to forget me though, because they can't be bothered to remember my weird name. You'd think it would have the opposite effect. Maybe it's just my personality though and I'm really just a forgettable person Grin

If you love the name then go for it. I think it goes nicely with your Vivienne, which is a fabulous name by the way Smile

AngharadTheSplendid · 04/02/2016 15:00

Art, love Quentin and Sascha but DH has just put the kibosh on both. He's no fun. Theodora and Talia are both gorgeous and going on the list.

Pip, love Roman and Cassius. I actually really like 'Edward Roman.' Sounds classic and strong. I can understand my boys names seeming a little dull compared to the girls... I don't know why I am just really drawn to boys names that sound like members of the Royal family! Grin

Felix thanks so much for the honest review of X, that's exactly what I was after. It sounds like my worries about spelling/pron are not unfounded. It's really helpful to know that. If our surname was Jones I would probably go for it anyway (as it is the most beautiful name in the world!) but because I always have to spell out our weird surname I think the two together might just be too far. It's funny that people can struggle with it so much and yet most are fine with other Greek names that aren't pronounced as they appear, like Phoebe, Chloe, Zoe, Hermione, Penelope. It must be the X factor. And, as you say, that most people haven't heard it before. PS you don't sound forgettable at all!

Love all the names on this list!

Audrey
Seraphina
Juliette

AngharadTheSplendid · 04/02/2016 15:24

Ray ooh Juliette and Vivienne sound really pretty together!

Just checked dark greener website, v surprised to see there have been no Claudette's of Claudine's born in the last 3/4 years! Due a revival I think...

Felix interesting what you say about being called Sandy. There is an acquaintance who calls my dd Sandy. I've just given up correcting her now as it has become tedious and quite frankly embarrassing that she can't grasp it.

Op I had the same argument with Mil when she said we couldn't call dd Xanthe as its Greek and hard to pronounce. I had to remind her that Chloe is Greek and not pronounced as it is spelt (she suggested Chloe)

I like Claudette, oddly enough is the name of my friends grandmother.

AngharadTheSplendid · 04/02/2016 17:08

Goldplated, there's always one isn't there. We have a friend who I've sent numerous emails/texts/cards to, all mentioning 'Vivienne' and yet every response calls her 'Vivian'!

My first thought was "not Edward" because of Pretty Woman.

AngharadTheSplendid · 04/02/2016 20:35

That is something to consider stiff. Funnily enough it's one of my favourite films. Maybe it is subconsciously influencing me...!

What about Edmund or Edwin, or Elwin

dotdotdotmustdash · 04/02/2016 22:34

I knew a Rosina many years ago. She was a lovely lady, very classy.

Vivienne Rose
Rosina (Rosy) Violet

stiffstink · 05/02/2016 00:04

I subconsciously named DS after the 2 lead characters of a classic film! Only realised months later!

BlueChampagne · 05/02/2016 12:33

You could have Constance, NN Coco. How about Conrad for a boy?

BlueChampagne · 05/02/2016 12:37

Laurence?
Anthony?

TiggyD · 05/02/2016 19:53

I'm a man Tiggy. it's a nickname. Long story but it's mostly due to my Tigger-like qualities.

By the way, here's Everton owner Bill Kenwright singing a song called Tiggy.

GraceS123 · 05/02/2016 20:09

Xanthe - I never know how to pronounce this and it looks complicated...
Adrianna - it's okay, but I wouldn't use it! You could have the NN RiRi? Annie?
Persephone - hate it
Claudia - it's nice, but she would get 'Claud(ie)'
Roxana - it's nice, I guess (I prefer it spelt with the double n
Indiana or Indigo - don't like either!
Astrid - I like this, it's different
Seraphina - not keen
Angelica - I love this (I like the NN Angel)
Evangeline - too fussy (Eva is better)

Edward - love it! Teddy is lovely too Smile
Alexander - nice, he would get Alex... 100%
William - this is growing on me a lot, I like the NN Billy!

What's with needing a NN? I get it for the obvious NNs, but some just don't need a 'planned' one...

Zariyah · 05/02/2016 23:21

You have great taste in names. I love Seraphina and Evangeline. I think your DD's name goes well with both, although a mouthful if you're yelling their full names across the park because they won't get off the swings and go home. 😂

Zariyah · 05/02/2016 23:22

Oh and Edward for a boy is lovely, many potential nicknames too which may or may not be your thing.

PooDogMillionaire · 06/02/2016 09:22

Claudia, definitely! Sounds perfect with Vivienne.

PooDogMillionaire · 06/02/2016 09:25

Edward for a boy (Ed, Ted, Teddy, Ned)

AngharadTheSplendid · 07/02/2016 05:53

Thanks all!

Glad Edward/Teddy is getting lots of love. I think it's my boy favourite now.

Ive come across a few others I like - Juno, nova and Suki... But all too short next to Vivienne I think. Oh and Sheherezade which I am in love with, but I definitely don't think we could pull that one off!! So 'Claudia Xanthe/Ariadne' and 'Edward Alexander' are the front runners. (Grace you're right, first name Alexander would 100% become Alex which I'm not keen on. And I wouldn't put Xander on the birth certificate bc it doesn't feel formal enough to me).

I'll update when we'd find out b/g Smile

DD1 is Seraphina and we get mostly positive comments. I love Evangeline but DH vetoed it for dd2.

We went with Illeana in the end. :)
