And what second name goes best:
Océane
Rose
Arabella/Araba
Malika

Aubrey is short for Auberon/Oberon, so more of a fairy name than an elf. But definitely male.

As you can see, it has not transitioned properly in UK (and probably elsewhere in Europe with the same Titania/Auberon tradition). Personally, i don't like names on what remains the wrong sex fro many, but perhaps you don't mind that.

Bree is a good short form for Breagh.

Sorry, OP, it looks awful spelled like that. It looks like a made up name.

Report
mercifulTehlu · 30/01/2016 16:49

It's definitely a boy's name, but I think it would be ok for a girl. Only if you spell it correctly (i.e. Aubrey) though!

All names are made up. Every single one.

Surely the more they are used the sooner the transition? So OP would be part of the transition if she used the name. Names only become more common by more people choosing them.

I completely agree with Elf, all names are made up why is an established name like Jayne automatically better than a name someone recently made up?

Report
AuntieStella · 30/01/2016 17:01

There's no reason to think a full transition would ever happen, is a particularly desirable event anyhow, or should happen in a particular timeframe.

Right now, it's still widely seen as a boys name. You may or may not want that for your girl.

Of course. But it isnt necessary anyway.

Aubrey is seen as a boy name.
Aubree just looks like you are trying to be youneeq!!

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 30/01/2016 17:06

I agree with Wolfiefan I'm afraid.

Rose as a first name is lovely.

I think that she would spend too long explaining that it isn't Audrey, no she's not a boy, yes it is spelt ee.
Also, how are you planning to pronounce 'Océane'?

Report
juneau · 30/01/2016 18:40

Aubree is awful.
Aubrey is a boy's name.
Audrey is a girl's name.

Oceane? Are you French? If not, then a big fat 'no'.

Rose or Arabella are the best names you mention.

Makes me think of Aubrey Mixes (aka The Orb Remixes - early 90's reference...)

I'm indifferent on the name Aubree but would pick Rose out of the middle names.

When googled though it is listed as a girls name currently although traditionally male and I've just had a search on the 2014 baby names spreadsheets that I'm currently browsing:
Boys name - Aubrey 34
Girls name - Aubree 66, Aubrey 61, Aubrie 5

Poor OP. You live and learn eh?
I like it. If the df agrees then that's all that matters.
God forbid you deviate from the top ten most popular names in case some numpty can't spell it.
No one can pronounce or spell my name. There were four in my class and only has four letters! Its not an uncommon name.

I came so so close to calling my son Aubrey. There a few in Ireland.

For a girl, yep it's ok too for a girl. I don't mind it.

Mind you I went with a short but unusual name for my son and I am forever correcting people. He's only four months old and I'm already tired of the corrections. So watch out, you'll end up explaining the spelling as "Audrey but with a 'b'".

It's awful.
It's a boy's name.
Adding 'ee' to any name and thinking it makes a pretty girl's name is just delusional.
Why on earth would you saddle a girl with a name like that? Is it just to show how 'out there' you are?
Just remember it's her, not you, who'll have a lifetime of having to explain it, spell it and repeat it to those who've misheard.

expatinscotland · 30/01/2016 20:31

It's a boy's name. Just don't. Sounds ridiculous on a girl, as does 'Oceane' with an accent. Sounds like a porn star name.

Pidapie · 30/01/2016 20:31

I think Rose for middle name, without a doubt!

I like Aubrey for a girl. I think it's grown on me from all the Teen Mom I watch.
i know one male Aubrey in his 60's, the other ones I know are female and under three.

Have you tried saying 'Aubrey Arabella' aloud a few times? It's like a tongue twister .
My first reaction to Aubrey is that it is a mans name and v old fashioned.
My first reaction to Aubree would be 'oh right. Hmmm.'

Report
VelvetThunder · 30/01/2016 21:07

I like Aubrey for a girl. I also think of teen mom, so therefore quite American, but if you like it then why not. I agree a short name like Rose goes best with it.

I have an unusual name when my mum first told people she was warned I would hate her and my name as I grew older.....I am now 33 at no point in my life have I disliked my name. I loved the fact I was the only one in my class and that people remembered my name. I don't think Aubree is completely out there its pretty and different. I would choose a short more usual name (Rose) to compliment her first name.

... I think Rose is fast becoming the most over-used middle name along with Mae/May. I'd be more wary of that than the unusual first name!

Report
TheNewStatesman · 02/02/2016 03:14

It looks v tacky and American, sorry, and so does Oceane (esp with an accent).

Aubrey if you must. But she will get people confusing her with Audrey or expecting a man to show up in the interview room.

Rose and Arabella are nice enough.

Malika sounds made-up.

Araba? I don't even know how to pronounce that.

Report
murphys · 02/02/2016 06:05

If I saw the name Aubree I would automatically assume it was spelled incorrectly on the day of registration, and that it was a boy.

Arabella, for me just no as this reminds me of stabling and horses.

Malika, well there was that elephant movie and that was his name, so that just reminds me of an elephant.

Rose. OK, that's a pretty name if pretty is what you are after. Becoming very popular now so it certainly wont be unique.

Oceane.... sorry I like that the least...
