Sailor?

Sailor is supposedly a German name in orgin, although different sites and information also suggest it could be English, as am I (both English and German that is). It obviously has connections to the sea and boats, as has my family for generations. Given the links, what do people think?

I immediately thought 'hello sailor' in really grubby tone which has put me off I'm afraid. It'd be every phone call, 'hello Sailor'.

Yes. Hard to get over Hello Sailor isn't it? Especially as people would say it all the time.

I think it's quite cute for a child, but can't really picture it on an adult. I suppose it depends on your surname though...

If it helps at all, we live in Germany and there isn't quite the same view of it. In fact they are seem somewhat bewilder by the name Miller...

It's not my cup of tea, personally. I think it's one of those names that would need a confident guy to be able to pull it off! I just think, if your child were to be more timid, they might wish they didn't have such a stand out name. So in summary, it could be okay on the right person but I certainly wouldn't choose it myself x

I just think you'd require a creative/ meeja/ actor type of job, and be destined for that before you were even born, which is a bit of a shame. Let your kid find their own destiny. You ain't gonna be a solicitor called Sailor now, are you?
