Having had a mixed reaction for Gloria, I'm wondering about Floella.

It is a proper name, although the only one I've ever heard of is Floella Benjamin from play school...

What about Doris?

I'm not so sure that Floella is a real name. I remember reading in Floella Benjamin's book when I was about 8 that her parents made it up as a cross between two names that they liked! Had completely forgotten about that til now.

Floella is forever associated with Humpty, Hamble, Jemima, Big Ted and Little Ted. Even though she's a Baroness (?) now, the first thing I think of is PlaySchool. Going forward, it will be associated with periods.

Gloria makes me sing "Gloooooooooooooria G - L - O - R - I - A" over and over.

My immediate thought was menstruation too.

I like Florence

Errrr, no to Floella. It does sound very menstruation related... Not too keen on Gloria but a vast improvement on Floella! Florence is nice.

She's now Baroness Benjamin of Beckenham, having worked and campaigned for all sorts of educational improvements and childrns charities. She's wonderful.

Florence is really popular round these parts. Honestly, almost every second child is called Florence after Madam and her Machine legit amused it. I prefer Gloria - it sounds beautiful and uplifting, has a great meaning, is unusual without being pompous.

To quote Puff Daddy (and I don't do that very often) Floella is 'all about the benjamins'.

I wonder if she still wears polo mint earrings?

What about Fenella if you have been put off? I like Gloria and dont mind Floella (as in a name I would be going " oh nice" if someone told me but wouldnt want to name my own children)

My first reaction was some sort of flowery drain cleaner.
