What are people's opinions on this name? Also any middle name suggestions welcome! Thanks

Of course it matters! If we lived closer then obviously more chance of confusion. Either way I don't see that as an issue so it's not important.

Love!

Ilovegummibaers · 21/01/2016 15:14

Another one who wouldn't have two grandchildren called Amelie and Emily if you can avoid it. And yes, Emily/Amelie/Amelia are very common these days. I really like Fleur!

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 21/01/2016 15:17

I used to love it but it's pretty much the most popular name around these parts. If you're happy with her potentially being 'Amelie.H.' or 'Little Amelie' for her entire life then go ahead.

rageagainsttheBIL · 21/01/2016 15:25

It's a pretty name but extremely popular, and Amelia is the no 1 girls name I think. That would put me off.

StompyFreckles · 21/01/2016 15:28

I agree - I wouldn't go for Amelie if there is already an Emily in the family.

Sunshine511 · 21/01/2016 15:39

OP, I don't think people are necessarily saying it because it will cause confusion in the family (which I'm sure it will to some degree) but as someone previously said, the names are so similar and sound almost identical in particular accents. If I knew 2 cousins with those names, I'd wonder why the 2nd parents felt the need to copy and why they couldn't come up with something else given the fact they're not far off the same name. I have a niece called Amelia and I think it would be like me having a daughter and then calling her Emilia. I know the spellings of those 2 are more similar but from a pronunciation point of view, it's the same difference as there is between Emily and Amelie. I was very surprised to read that your sister really wouldn't mind this! It's obviously your baby, your family, your choice x

Jw35 · 21/01/2016 15:46

My sister wouldn't mind because we have a very close relationship and she's the most laid back person I know! I'm really confused why it would be an issue? They will live about 500 miles apart with an 18 year age gap. My mum I see about 2-3 times a year and my dad who lives near me sees Emily 2-3 times a year! Even in conversation surely it's not that complicated to list grandchildren's names and include Emily and Amelie? If we lived near each other and the kids were similar age fair enough but otherwise I don't see the problem?

EachandEveryone · 21/01/2016 15:48

It's very popular

Jw35 · 21/01/2016 15:50

Well here's the proof she wouldn't mind!

I don't mind the popularity aspect at all.

Sunshine511 · 21/01/2016 16:06

It's totally a personal decision. She's given you the thumbs up so as Mitzy says, sorted!!x

Jw35 · 21/01/2016 16:35

I know! The mad thing is I wouldn't have thought to ask her but I wanted to be able to say I had! Grin

GPs two grandchildren called Amelie and Emily wouldn't be an issue for me at all, but then one branch of my family has two cousins both called Robert. Amelie is pretty much in the nicest possible way, a bit overused. I actually prefer Amelia and also like Amalia.

zippyswife · 21/01/2016 16:48

You clearly aren't bothered. So use it. If you and your sister don't mind then why not?

tangerinesarenottheonlyfruit · 21/01/2016 17:03

In the days of big families many grandparents would have had several grandchildren with the exact same name!

I can't understand why this is such an issue for some people.

NewLife4Me · 21/01/2016 17:05

It's a lovely name but be ready for yours and more importantly her life being spent telling people it's not Emily.
It's very pretty though.

NewLife4Me · 21/01/2016 17:07

Oh, I didn't even see the bit about an Emily already in the family, my response wasn't in relation to this.

Jw35 · 21/01/2016 18:20

I don't mind if people get it wrong as I like Emily anyway Smile Amelia is more popular than Amelie! But fair enough it may be overused (I don't know any though)

Bastardshittits · 21/01/2016 18:25

I have an Amelie. I love the name obviously! One thing that grates is Dfil and his strong West Country accent - it always sounds like Emily.

RedToothBrush · 21/01/2016 18:29

Its Amelia or Emily for people trying and failing to be different.

Jw35 · 21/01/2016 18:32

Not trying to be different just like it! My other 2 have very normal names. Different is ok though!
