Boy name sorted, now need girl names... Middle name Fern

OP posts:

I don't see Jemma as lower class (my cousin is one and she's a dentist). But I do agree that Emma is nicer and more classic.

SixtyFootDoll · 19/01/2016 00:18

Emma. But I like my name.

emwithme · 19/01/2016 00:28

I'd also say Emma. But I'm biased.

JenniferAnistonsHair · 19/01/2016 00:30

Emma

BeautyIsTruth · 19/01/2016 10:29

I prefer Gemma/Jemma and I like both spellings. I think it's prettier than Emma and I've known some lovely Gemmas/Jemmas.

squoosh · 19/01/2016 10:36

Gemma is becoming very popular in America, and considered quite upmarket! Funny how it's perceived differently here.

I don't think it sounds 'lower class', just a bit dated. I'd pick it over Emma though.

SweetSuz · 19/01/2016 11:35

Emma definitely. Jemma/Gemma to me is in same bracket as Sharon and Tracy, very 80s and harsh sounding.

rageagainsttheBIL · 20/01/2016 10:30

Gemma is like Sharon and Tracy?! I think it's a soft-sounding name, nothing like Tracy but maybe a bit 80s

I prefer Jemma to Gemma though. Only celeb I can think of is Jemma Kidd and she's definitely not common. I quite like Emma but it's very boring common. I'd only use it if I had a very unusual or cool surname otherwise your DD could be one of 500000 Emma Smiths.

iamnotaponceyloudperson · 20/01/2016 10:34

Emma.

slebmum1 · 20/01/2016 10:40

Jemma fern - do you like TOWIE?!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/01/2016 10:45

Emma

But have you thought of Jemima? Could be shortened yo Jem/Jemma.

mrsschu · 20/01/2016 12:35

Not too keen on either. Emma is very dull, I knew a load of them growing up in the 80's and 90's. Jemma sounds very dated IMO, a bit like Tracy or Amanda. But if you're going with one, then Emma is better than Jemma. It's at least a classic name.

WannaBeAMummy16 · 20/01/2016 17:15

Emma Fern is gorgeous.

chuckieegg2008 · 20/01/2016 20:08

Emma

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 20/01/2016 20:47

Emma without contest. It's classy and elegant, and suits every age.

AmyC86 · 20/01/2016 20:50

I knew a Jenna once, just throwing it out there....

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2016 22:28

Emma

pollylovespie · 20/01/2016 22:35

Emma is lovely but v popular- 3 in one class in our school. So they're all known as Emma initial. Jemma is just a misspelling of Gemma isn't it?

DakotaFanny · 20/01/2016 22:37

Emma. Though I like the Jenna suggestion too.

ToriOri · 20/01/2016 22:48

Jemma is actually a very well known spelling... Back in the 1990s, Gemma was around 50 and Jemma was around 120... Not a lot in it, really... I feel like it's a bit like Eleanor/Elinor, Elliot/Elliott, etc.

Custard314 · 20/01/2016 22:51

I like Gemma. It peaked in the 80s and Emma peaked in the 2000s

There's just a bit more to Jemma/Gemma imo.

Flingingmelon · 20/01/2016 23:17

It looks like about half the posters here are called Emma waves, depends whether you mind that for your DD?

You wouldn't make Fern the first name?

Custard314 · 20/01/2016 23:39

Fern is rarer but it's a bit......... blunt.

Stepparentbashersfuckoff · 20/01/2016 23:45

What a shocking show of snobbery on this thread Hmm

AmyC86 · 21/01/2016 11:32

I'm sticking to my suggestion of Jenna Fern Smile what do you think OP?
