My partner and I have been batting names back and forth for aaaages and tonight have come up with Hendrix for a boy. Rex for short and T-Rex just to be super cool.

Thoughts?

mrsdv I LOVE your dc names and particularly the name marley!! if I had a fourth I would definitely call him/her that, suits both a boy or a girl I think

I remember at the time I posted on here about the name hendrix and most people said it was awful but you said to go for it, :D

Lennox is good. I like Huxley too.

To me, being "try hard" is worrying too much about how "cool" a name is. How cool your child will be determined by him; his personality, talents, tastes, looks, and by what his peers perceive to be cool. Not by what you call him. Baby T-Rex could grow up to be the biggest dweeb ever! (Not that there's anything wrong with being a dweeb...)

Georgeofthejungle · 13/01/2016 22:28

Love Marley! For a girl. Super cute!! Smile I will propose that to my OH.

Thanks for the clarification MrsF. I definitely wouldn't want that as it's definitely not the effect we are going for. Just thought (and still think) it's a cool as hell name although having sat on it for a few days it's maybe not one we will use. We keep going back to Archie for a boy but it just sounds a bit dull next to a cool name like Hendrix.

Hendrix and Marley would be priiiiiity cool together as brother and sister though. And this is because I like the names not because I'm a big Jimi, Bob or Marley and me fan (just to clarify). Grin

Hmm i'm now staring at my new cat and just wondering if it'd suit?? Grin Totally your choice, although i'm more for tradional names.

FairNotFair · 13/01/2016 22:46

I heard that too, Mrs Devere

Mrsfrumble · 13/01/2016 22:49

Yes, I think Steely Dan is the dildo in Naked Lunch by William Burroughs. It's been too many years since I read it to remember why a dildo has a name.

AradiasDaemon · 13/01/2016 23:01

I love it! I was also going to suggest Huxley, I LOVED that and wanted it for DS but DH wouldn't let me. Huxley pig? Never heard of it but was talked out of it because of that. Ended up with a really boring name (sorry, DS) and wish I'd gone for Dexter or Huxley instead now. Or Luca. Such a gorgeous name. (Really wouldn't have suited him though).

Rix would be confused with Rick's though. Hmmmm Confused

AbbyCadabby · 13/01/2016 23:15

I like it. I met a little one a few years ago, his brother had a cool rock-star surname for a first name too.

CheerfulYank · 14/01/2016 00:08

I love Lennon MrsD!

In my head my kids all have cool rockstar names. In reality they're Sam, Maggie, and Will :o

Mrsfrumble · 14/01/2016 03:04

As much as I like Huxley, Hux is the automatic shortening and now the whole world has gone Star Wars bonkers it may be tainted by the Space-Nazi character.

appleblossomtime · 14/01/2016 22:13

it's cool, but he'll definitely be Hen - you know, like Hen Broon.

MamaLazarou · 15/01/2016 15:04

Poor little Steely Dan!

Naming your child after a rock star is not cool. It's the opposite of cool. Let your kid be cool in their own way, don't try to borrow someone else's personal brand of coolness.

Mclaren37 · 17/01/2016 14:04

Hendrix is fab! I think Rex is perfect and it would be an obvious nn - and a nice usable one that he can introduce (No ones going to call a kid Hendy??)
I agree Huxley, Dexter and Lennox also good alternatives with the same sound.

Mclaren37 · 17/01/2016 14:07

Let's try that again....
Hendrix is fab! I think Rex is perfect and it would be an obvious nn - and a nice usable one that he can introduce himself with if he prefers it. (No ones going to call a kid Hendy??)
I agree Huxley, Dexter and Lennox also good alternatives with the same sound. I know two Lennons, a girl and a boy. Times are achanging, adults of your boys generation will have all sorts of unusual names.

verytiredmummy1 · 17/02/2016 19:11

I'll be honest. I read the thread and thought I didn't like it but I've really warmed to it!!

BertrandRussell · 17/02/2016 19:19

Don't people who want "cool" names for their kids ever order what it would be like to be an incredibly uncool person having to deal with it? Bad enough to be skinny and spotty and shorter than everyone else because you haven't had your growth spurt and with a voice that hasn't broken and no ball skills without being called Apollo, or Zeus or Hendrix.......even the nicest person would have to stifle a smile when they heard it, however much they tried not to...........

pickledparsnip · 17/02/2016 19:27

Love it.

verytiredmummy1 · 17/02/2016 21:03

I just mentioned it to my husband though and he thought I was joking!! Sorry :(

Nobodyspecialanymore · 17/02/2016 21:05

My last dog was called Hendrix!

InkleWinkle · 17/02/2016 21:07

I know a Maximillion age 5.
