My partner and I have been batting names back and forth for aaaages and tonight have come up with Hendrix for a boy. Rex for short and T-Rex just to be super cool.

Thoughts?

You know if your husband is a big Jimi Hendrix fan he could just, y'know, buy a t-shirt or something. Your child isn't a walking advertisement for his musical taste!

austenozzy · 10/01/2016 23:11

I quite like it, but I'm not convinced, sorry. Some people might think it a tad 'trying too hard'.

Names with x in - I know a nice Dutch bloke called Dax, which strikes me as quite cool and unusual!

Congrats if you're expecting, btw!

Hellochicken · 10/01/2016 23:15

Hendrix - bit too "cool" for me
Rex - quite like
T-Rex - hormonal

Georgeofthejungle · 10/01/2016 23:15

Really, trying too hard?.. I wouldn't like that. I don't see what it would be trying to acheive though.. Thanks Austenozzy Grin

He is a fan shesgot but it was me that suggested it so no walking advertisements here, thanks.

Hormonal

TheBestChocolateIsFree · 10/01/2016 23:23

Can you not just go for Alexander nn Xander. Both Scottish and X-tastic

Georgeofthejungle · 10/01/2016 23:26

Not a big fan of that one thebest.

Max is a contender I think. Maximillion! Smile

Hendrix is a bit odd, but I guess you could go for Hendrik? Perfectly good (if oldfashioned) Dutch name, that.

ShesGotLionsInHerHeart · 11/01/2016 08:54

I like Maximillian. Smile

mrsschu · 11/01/2016 09:05

Hendrix also makes me think of the gin (yes I know it's spelt differently). It's a very faddy name IMO. Rex is a pretty silly nn and T-Rex sounds ridiculous, sorry. How about Henrik? It's an old fashioned German name, experiencing a small revival I think.

peggyundercrackers · 11/01/2016 09:11

rix and rex are completely different names - rex wont be the short name for Hendrix. as someone else said hen is more likely - you might like rex or rix but you cant choose the name he gets called at school by his mates.

MamaLazarou · 11/01/2016 09:52

It's just so desperately try-hard.

steppemum · 11/01/2016 09:59

when I first saw the thread title I thought - no way, but now I have seen it go past a few times I am really warming to it.

I usually don't like any none traditional names, or surnames as first names, but...somehow...it has a nice ring to it.

And I like the fact that it is unusual but known, so people will be able to spell it.

And, yes you can choose the nn he has, because people will follow your lead. You can use Rex if you want. I actually would stick to the whole thing.
My son is Isaac, no-one ever shortens it. Similar sound and length, with no obvious shortening.

dayslikethis · 11/01/2016 10:12

I quite like it, but my first thought for a shortened nn was Hendy - not Rex!

I actually don't mind Rix though, I think it's actually a bit cooler (and less like the name of a pet dog) than Rex - I like it!

I know a few Hendys (we live in Scotland too) - all short for Henderson as a surname and ages between mid-teens and late 60s - I think that would work well - esp when a little older.

Georgeofthejungle · 11/01/2016 10:38

I agree on the choosing the nickname steppe. We do like Rex sobmight be better just to use Rex instead of a longer version.

Like the suggestion of Hendrik - that's quite cool. But I won't get my X then. Not quite sure why I like it so much! Smile

Someone will have to explain what 'try hard' is cus I really don't understand. It's not a term I'm familiar with. I do know I don't like it though Confused

Dayslike - I know a hendo , again short for last name Henderson. My partner prefers Rix to Rex too, got the same reasons. Smile

If you like the x, other x names could be:

Dexter
Maximilian
Alex(ander)
Xavier
Felix
Xeno (I know a xeno, he uses his middle name)

Georgeofthejungle · 11/01/2016 11:24

Thanks snuffle - I like Dexter but my OH doesn't. Not so keen on the others, apart from Max.

It's so hard to pick a name! Still searching for a girls name too !

Are you having a Voodo Child?
Whoops chile

Copperspider · 11/01/2016 11:30

I love it. (But not T-Rex)

I know of two - friend's sister, and sister's friend both chose it for their little boys.

PeachFuzzzz · 11/01/2016 11:32

Hendrix is awesome !

RedToothBrush · 11/01/2016 12:19

Bowie.

CaptainWarbeck · 11/01/2016 12:49

Hendrick rather than Hendrix might be less out there...

Or Maxwell instead of Maximilian?

Eigg · 11/01/2016 12:56

I agree with days he'll get called "Hendy" rather than "Rex".

Remember you don't choose the nickname, his teenage peers choose it.

If you don't like Hendy go for something else.

Sometimesithinkimbonkers · 11/01/2016 13:07

Huxley???
