Fine, if you spell it properly. Twatty if not.

NadiaWadia · 03/01/2016 00:16

Nice, but I prefer the spelling Eleanor somehow. Certainly Elinor is more unusual so that's a plus.

NadiaWadia · 03/01/2016 00:17

Elinor is a perfectly normal spelling. Jane Austen used it and I don't think she was a twat, really.

TheIggorcist · 03/01/2016 00:17

I have this name (with this spelling) in my family history. Great grandparents were clearly being twatty then! Hmm
It is nice, but will mostly be spelt the other way.

AMT2512 · 03/01/2016 00:20

I just really like the i in it :) didn't really know it was considered a "bad" spelling alternative!

OP posts:
NadiaWadia · 03/01/2016 00:21

It's not. Clearly it's a spelling that has been around hundreds of years. Ignore!

AuntieStella · 03/01/2016 00:22

I like it, and I like this older spelling.

DramaAlpaca · 03/01/2016 00:22

I like it, and Elinor is a perfectly acceptable alternative spelling. I prefer it, actually.

Boogers · 03/01/2016 00:23

DD's name is Eleanor so I obviously love it. Have seen it spelled Elinor before too. Can be shortened many ways and suits DD to a T!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 03/01/2016 00:29

Author of Chalet School series of books - perfectly acceptable spelling!

I like both versions of the name.

NHKX2 · 03/01/2016 00:40

Elinor is on our shortlist, so obviously I love the name. This spelling is how my grandmother spells it and is also the main way it's spelled in Sweden, which is our heritage. Anyone who says it's not a legitimate spelling must be the twat 😝

Boogers · 03/01/2016 00:46

DD is Eleanor and I've seen it as Elenor, Elanor and Elinor. It's a beautiful name, however it's spelled! Smile

alltouchedout · 03/01/2016 00:50

Beautiful. I love it :)

SuckingEggs · 03/01/2016 00:52

It'll be misspelt an awful lot. I think it's an ok name, nowt special though.

FattyNinjaOwl · 03/01/2016 00:53

I love the name. It's beautiful. I do prefer Eleanor but that's just personal preference. Absolutely nothing wrong with Elinor.

Boogers · 03/01/2016 00:55

SuckingEggs - unpleasant thing to say. Are you not in a happy place tonight?

AMT2512 · 03/01/2016 01:06

How do you pronounce it? The ones with DDs named this? I like it said El-eh-nuh... Do you say nor at the end?

OP posts:
Boogers · 03/01/2016 01:10

DD is el-len-or, though Elinor is el-in-or, Elanor is el-an-nor and Elenor is, I think, el-en-or, same as Eleanor.

AMT2512 · 03/01/2016 01:11

Well, I want it said as Ellie-nah (kind of), but is it supposed to sound Ellie-nor?

OP posts:
TheBestChocolateIsFree · 03/01/2016 01:12

It's a very pretty name but because it's such a minority (although still perfectly legitimate) spelling she will have to spell it out and correct people a lot. She will become "ElinorwithanI" - all one word. But that's not the worst fate, and it wouldn't put me off a name I really loved.

AMT2512 · 03/01/2016 01:13

Is it possible for me to said it with the nah sound at the end? :S I had a step-cousin growing up (Eleanor) and everyone said it as Ellie-nah

SuckingEggs · 03/01/2016 01:18

Boogers, very happy dear. But thanks for asking.

The op asked for opinions. Haven't you come across the baby name thread before? You're being silly.

As I said... It's ok, but she'll spend her life correcting people.

Boogers · 03/01/2016 01:20

It sounds however you want it to sound! I'm probably going to out myself here but DS is Joseph but I've always pronounced it Jo-sef, not Jo-zif. He gets irritated by people pronouncing it Jo-zif.

Boogers · 03/01/2016 01:22

SuckingEggs - I'm not being silly, and it won't always be corrected.

BooOzMoo · 03/01/2016 01:23

My Jacob would have been an Elinor!!!! Beautiful!!
