It'll be misspelt a lot. Take the first comment on this thread as an example, boogers.

SuckingEggs · 03/01/2016 01:28

Ah, Boogers. I see your DD is called Eleanor. Fwiw, I like that name a lot. It's very dignified and strong.

nooka · 03/01/2016 01:36

I suspect that an Elinor might expect to have the 'nor' pronounced a bit more strongly than an Eleanor, although technically they are the same name.

Boogers · 03/01/2016 01:40

For what it's worth, my first name has many different spellings and several pronunciations. Only my mother and father can/could spell it correctly and pronounce it consistently. Sometimes it doesn't matter what other people say or how they spell it, it gives you strength of character to be able to stand up and correct them. You go with Elinor! Smile

BikeRunSki · 03/01/2016 06:10

The Elinor I know clips the "i" and emphasises the "or" and pronounces it Eh Lyn Gnaw.

NinjaLeprechaun · 03/01/2016 08:00

I would think that if you have a rhotic accent it will be Elinor and if you have a non-rhotic accent it will be Elinah. At least, that's what it would sound like to my ear.

I prefer the spelling Elinor, btw - I always want to pronounce Eleanor as Ell-ee-ah-nor, for some reason.

Coldtoeswarmheart · 09/01/2016 23:25

Um, I thought Elinor was the accepted Welsh spelling of Eleanor, rather than a made-up spelling. .

Junosmum · 10/01/2016 11:07

I like it, but pronounce it Elle-i- knorr where as I'd pronounce Eleanor as el-a-nah.

Thurlow · 10/01/2016 11:10

Lovely. I'd say it as El-i-nor, rather than El-a-nor.

dementedpixie · 10/01/2016 11:12

I would sound the 'r' in both spellings tbh

Squirbo · 10/01/2016 11:15

Are you Scottish DementedPixie?

dementedpixie · 10/01/2016 11:16

Yes I am scottish

PizzaConnoisseur · 10/01/2016 11:17

Beware, people will most often pronounce it as Ellie-NOR. I have unfortunate experience of this.

Hamishandthefoxes · 10/01/2016 11:19

My best friend is an Elinor and doesn't constantly have to spell it. It's a lovely name.

Squirbo · 10/01/2016 11:20

You'll have a rhotic accent that means you pronounce Rs then. In RL I'd be bugging you to say 'world' as it sounds so nice with the R Blush

Elinor is a lovely, classic name whichever spelling you use OP.

Salimali15 · 11/01/2016 20:10

Elinor is the Welsh spelling. It's top of my list.

Borninthe60s · 11/01/2016 20:19

Love it and say Elinor when I see it like that. I say Ellener when is see the other spelling!

AliAliAlium · 11/01/2016 21:54

It's lovely, and I prefer this spelling. I have a rhotic accent and would pronounce it "Elle-in-or", with a slight emphasis on the first syllable (I would pronounce "Eleanor" in exactly the same way.)

ThePartyArtist · 12/01/2016 17:58

Sorry if it's already been said, haven't read the whole thread, but Elinor is the Welsh spelling so isn't incorrect!

Tuiles · 12/01/2016 18:02

You might consider Elena or Elina if you want an 'ah' ending.

Sparklycat · 12/01/2016 18:38

Elinor is the older version of the name, not a new made up one like some people seem to think Hmm I think it's lovely spelling it the old way.

Sparklycat · 12/01/2016 18:41

Elena or Elaina if you what the 'nah' not the 'not'.
