I love love love this name, dsis thinks is a bit aspirational and used either by posh or wannabe posh? Does this fit with those you know?

I would expect quite religious Christian parents, but not necessarily that type.

Yes, two-middle class parents but not up themselves or pretentious. Only calked benedict when they've been naughty! Ben otherwise.

I went to uni with one. He'd be about 35 now, he was very posh and religious.

mine is 26. he's one of my best friends. he has lovely manners and loves reading.

he's very charming and really listens to people when they talk.

he's neither posh nor wannabe posh. his dad manages a warehouse. he's just lovely.

I was friends with a Benedict known as Ben when I was a teenager. His parents were MC and quite religious. Him, not so much... Wink

I know a Benedict. He's a lovely 40-something hippie with a preference for hand-woven textiles and an interest in am-dram. Absolute sweetheart.

Doesn't say snobby to me. Also easy to have a "normal" nickname. Go for it but don't tell anyone el until you present the with the baby.

I've worked in several posh schools and have never taught one Smile the most common posh one IME is Harry. I once taught one year 9 class where 6 out of 15 boys were called Harry...

My brother is a Benedict. Catholic family, but not Bible bashers in the least. My parents thought it was a lovely alternative to Benjamin. We also loved it and is DS' middle name.

It's traditionally a bit posh but so what? It's more "heard of" now that Benedict Cumberbatch is so well known. Much nicer than Benjamin.

I know one, early 40s, lovely guy, quite eccentric and from very nice background. Although he rarely uses Benedict and is known as Ben. I did consider it for DS - my preference would have been for Ben with Benedict as name on birth certificate rather than Benjamin but just felt that people would automatically think Cumberbatch.

Still think it's a lovely name.
