I love love love this name, dsis thinks is a bit aspirational and used either by posh or wannabe posh? Does this fit with those you know?

Yes, an ex boyfriend. 31 now, not posh, religious dad. Nice guy. Normal.

TheOldestCat · 28/12/2015 22:31

Yes, early 40s and a lovely person. Quite posh background but he (known as Ben) is very down to earth.

DD would have been Benedict, after him.

Footle · 28/12/2015 22:33

I knew one called Dick for short.

Sophronia · 28/12/2015 23:58

I know one who is around 25, he goes by Ben now but his parents called him Bendy when he was a child!

CherryPits · 29/12/2015 00:23

I knew one ages ago, from a huge RC family. All had very nice names, the kids.

Readysteadyknit · 29/12/2015 00:30

I know two - 17 and 18 yrs - both known as Ben. Both quite mc - one from a religious family, the other not. I think it's a lovely name.

ConesOfDunshire · 29/12/2015 01:55

Two - one preschooler, one early thirties. Both from smart catholic families.

doceodocere · 29/12/2015 06:06

I know one known as Ben. His brother is called Benjamin which I always thought a bit weird.

Bellejournee · 29/12/2015 07:01

I know one, nearly two. Known mostly as Ben. Lovely name, wouldn't say he's from a posh family.

ceeveebee · 29/12/2015 07:50

One aged 6 - pretty much always known as Ben - parents are not posh but are a bit quirky!

Lizzylou · 29/12/2015 07:52

I do, he is awesome.
So are his (not posh at all) parents Wink

RomiiRoo · 29/12/2015 07:55

Grin Lizzy
I like it too but he will become Ben, even if you don't use that NN, so think about whether you like Ben too.

SconeForAStroll · 29/12/2015 08:32

It is DS' middle name. Not religious (or posh Grin - I just love that character in Shakespeare.

Recently it has started to cause issues with people taking the mickey about the Batch though, which is annoying.

IsadoraQuagmire · 29/12/2015 11:54

Yes, my elder brother, he's 21. Nobody calls him Ben! We're a Catholic family and, I daresay, what would be termed "posh" also. Grin

CormoranStrike · 30/12/2015 17:11

Lovely name.

I would never have said it was religious at all.

jaggythistlez · 30/12/2015 17:13

Yes he was named after the pope at the time. I think they just call him Ben though.

Lancelottie · 30/12/2015 17:17

I didn't realise quite how many we knew until I started writing Christmas cards this year. I think nearly all our friends have kids called some combination of Benedict, Alexander and Rebecca Hmm.

CherryPits · 30/12/2015 18:56

I would never have said it was religious at all.

ha ha really?

Not even when you think about the Benedictine Monks?

mrsschu · 30/12/2015 19:17

I don't know any but quite like it. I suppose it's very slightly on the posh side but doesn't sound ridiculously posh IMO. It does sound a little religious maybe but there are plenty of names that have some kind of religious connontations so I wouldn't let that stop you.

CormoranStrike · 30/12/2015 19:25

I had forgotten that Benedictine mo is and Pope Benedict ever existed! Grin

CormoranStrike · 30/12/2015 19:25

*monks

doitanyways · 30/12/2015 19:26

I like it and it has a lovely meaning.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 30/12/2015 19:56

Yes I do. He's known as Ben though. I don't know what he's like now , mind but he was the sweetest and politest little boy you could have wished to meet. Why are you considering it.

EdithWeston · 30/12/2015 19:59

Don't overlook the great contribution made by those monks, Benedictine (the drink).

mercifulTehlu · 30/12/2015 20:02

Lovely name! Considered it for ds.
