Mabel or Merryn?

Which name do you prefer?

Not sure on the spelling for Merryn though...
Merryn / Maren? Any other suggestions.

Merryn would be to honour a Mary (at a stretch a Margaret as well ;)

Does it change to go with siblings Charlie and Tilly?

Really love Mabel.

Burgatroyd · 18/12/2015 13:30

Mabel!

squoosh · 18/12/2015 13:34

Merryn is pretty and feminine without being silly and frilly.

Mabel works in a transport caff and has a fag in her mouth at all times.

insan1tyscartching · 18/12/2015 13:42

Merryn for me I don't like Mabel sounds dowdy and drab.

grumpysquash2 · 18/12/2015 13:45

We have a Mabel and a Matilda. They are actually guinea pigs, but if they had been twin DDs I would still have used the names :)

MsMims · 18/12/2015 13:47

Mabel

5madthings · 18/12/2015 13:53

I have a Merryn. Just turned five, it always gets lots of positive comments and is a known name without being popular.

I like mabel as well though it is more old fashioned.

Meredith was another name I liked.

I do love Merryn, am now expecting Dc6 and really struggling with girls names as I can't think of a girls name I like as much as Merryn.

ChessieFL · 18/12/2015 13:58

The only Merryn I've heard of is a boy!

CakeRattleandRoll · 18/12/2015 14:00

Love Merryn, especially with nn Merry.

Varya · 18/12/2015 14:01

I knew a charming Merrielle. Lovely name.

KoalaDownUnder · 18/12/2015 14:03

Mabel! Or Maeve?

I don't like Merryn, for some reason. It vaguely reminds me of unattractive 1970s names like Darren and Kerryn.

dot91 · 18/12/2015 14:04

I know a child Meryn beautiful name but frequently got called Mirren by people .

MrsCaecilius · 18/12/2015 14:26

Merryn, nn Merry is lovely.

Mabel does work in a transport caff (quoosh), I can just hear someone shouting 'Oi Mable, gimme another cuppa!'

I can't imagine the same for Merryn.

Sophronia · 18/12/2015 14:33

Mabel goes very well with Charlie and Tilly.

MrsMarigold · 18/12/2015 14:34

I love Mabel.

StarDustMonkey · 18/12/2015 14:35

Love Merryn. There is a girl with the name in my DD's class and I think its a lovely name!

miniswin · 18/12/2015 14:45

Love Merryn, and also Merrielle... (adds to my list...)

JanuaryJuniper · 18/12/2015 14:53

Mabel is lovely

celtictoast · 18/12/2015 16:06

I like Merryn.

Miranda, Marla, Marianne?

brookeberry · 18/12/2015 16:08

Hmmm . . . I love them both Smile

brookeberry · 18/12/2015 16:08

At a push, Merryn.

BlueChampagne · 21/12/2015 12:07

Merryn by a million miles. Don't subscribe to old lady chic!

JakeyBurd · 21/12/2015 12:27

Prefer Merryn of the two. As for spelling, that could vary depending on the source. Merryn is a Cornish spelling and was originally a boy's name. Merran is an old Scots form of Marion.

Isn't Maren a different name/sound though?

AtiaoftheJulii · 21/12/2015 12:30

I've always liked Mabel, but lately I've heard Merryn in a couple of places, and I really like it.

sneepy · 21/12/2015 19:17

Charlie, Tilly, and Mabel really work together. I love Mabel, if I ever have another girl she'll be Mabel.
