Cara as a nn for Caroline? Other suggestions?

Caroline is a top contender if this DC is a girl but we need a nn (we tend to use a mix of full and nn with our other DC.

We cant use Cally as already in use by a family pet (!) and I'm not a big fan of Carrie really. I came up with Cara as quite often Caroline sounds more like 'Caraline' when said out loud - is this too much of a leap?

Any other nn suggestions? Must begin with C! (I have this thing about nn starting with the same letter as the full name)

I'd say Caro and Caz are the two most common nnames for Carolines I've known.

Anything else sounds a bit try-hard tbh. And given that Cara is a name in its own right people would probably just think that was her actual name Confused

What's your surname or middle name choice could she be a C something we CJ or ceecee? I just give my kids random nicknames dd is pippin and newbie ds is whitters ha ha.

I think of Cara as a completely different name from Caroline.

Really? I've never know a Caroline that goes by Caz!

Who cares if Cara seem 'try hard' OP, it's a hell of a lot better than Caz. (although I do prefer Callie)

I'm a Caroline, I hate being called Caro, Carol, or anything other than Caroline!
It's not an easy name to shorten, I wouldn't mind Carrie if I had to choose.

I'm a Caroline too and I always really wanted a nickname but non really worked. I was Caz at high school but it doesn't suit me. I have deliberately named my children names with obvious nicknames because of how I felt.

uhgnotagain plenty of names have shortenings that are now names in their own right - Katherine/kate, henry/harry, evelyne/evie so that seems a silly argument.

celtic I did suggest that to DH but as the pet in question is nominally DD's she may be a little put out! may suggest again as callie is my favourite I think.

sowhite because we want her to have a nickname? because I have a long and a short name and love having the choice, especially now as an adult? - only my friends know me by my short name, I use the full for doctors/forms etc. because the other 3 DC have a long and a short name? because a 3 syllable name is quite a lot for a little one? its not that strange a thing to do!

sandy middle names are picked, they do lend themselves to a nn but it is a nn used by most of the men from my side of the family on the sports field as its a play on my maiden name!

we have a Carol in the family known as Caz so I don't think I can use that one.

this is my biggest problem with the name as I cant find a nn I like!!

our only other contender for a name is much more popular (top 25) which is putting me off it (other DC have names well out of the top 100).

grump. this is too hard!!

Aww re name the pet, we have a little Callie (not short for Caroline though) and everyone compliments the name! Smile

Cassie might work. Ok people might think she was called Cassandra but they'd soon catch up

My mom specifically used the name Caroline because it is not easily shortened.

I don't understand why you'd pick such a pretty name and then ruin it by calling your daughter Caro or Caz or such! How awful.

My mum's a Caroline and she's never shortened it.

I'm a Caroline in the US and have never heard of anybody being called Caz. That must be a UK thing. Here, the most common nicknames are Carrie and Callie, but I'd say most Carolines go by Caroline. (I do.) Cara does make sense as a nickname to me, though. I don't like it, but it makes sense.

What about Caroline nn Calla?

I'm Caroline too. I answer to most nicknames. Carrie, Caro, Carol (yuck!) Caz, Cazel, Roline (yes, really..!) it's an awkward name as people are always desperate to shorten it!
