Is this pregnancy hormones making me think it's a good name? Are eddy and teddy very popular?

Teddy is very popular, but Edison will be known as Eddie. So you'll have to like that just as much...

Boozena · 12/12/2015 14:13

It is a nice name with nn but edison is a screw fitting on light bulbs and that's all I thought when I read it!

Dungandbother · 12/12/2015 14:27

It's great.

I have an Eddy.

Why does everyone assume Eddy is spelt ie?

Harrie?
Teddie?
Gerrie?
Terrie?
Freddie?

All look totally stupid with ie. To me at any rate. Makes them feminine.
I get girls names are now acceptable with ie and they have to say which way they are spelt.

But Eddy?

Anyway. Love Edison. Sorry for the thoughts

Dungandbother · 12/12/2015 14:29

There's one Teddy, one Freddy and one Eddy at school. All have varied full length first names.

And mine is also called Ed a lot.
So do you like Ed and Ted?

delilabell · 12/12/2015 14:30

Is it??? I had a dream about it the other night and liked it.
It would work with ds name as his is quite unusual

Dungandbother · 12/12/2015 14:32

OP I think like me, you see it spelt with a Y
Eddy

Lots of Ted's are actually Edward. So I still think Teddy works with Edison.

My Eddy is not an Edward nor an Edison.

delilabell · 12/12/2015 14:33

Sorry does it was to screw fitting! I like eddie/y but not ed as much....have just msgd dh suggesting it. He's not even replied ;-)

My Eddy has only really become Ed at school (now 5) by some close friends. It's cute hearing his best mate (Harry) call out Hey Ed

celtictoast · 12/12/2015 18:17

Light bulbs.

I prefer the less surnamey Ed names like Edward and Edwin.

delilabell · 12/12/2015 19:44

They wouldn't go with ds1's name as they're too far apart. I think it's going to be a no from dhs reaction!

orlakielyimnot · 12/12/2015 19:50

Great name! And you never know what his nickname will really be. He could have some funny incident with his friends arty some point and end up being called something random like Ant!

BondJayneBond · 12/12/2015 19:57

There's an Edison at DS1's school. I did think it was odd at first, but it's grown on me.

Re. Eddy and Teddy - Edward seems to be getting a lot more popular, at least where I live, so that's likely to boost the number of boys going by Eddy / Teddy.

Syppox2000 · 12/12/2015 20:02

We have an Eddison - Eddie. Everyone seems to love it !

RiverTam · 12/12/2015 20:13

Eddie Redmayne
Eddie Izzard
Eddie the Eagle

to name but 3 well-known Eddies. Just for the pp who seemed baffled by this spelling.

I quite like Edison.

PeppaPigStinks · 12/12/2015 21:29

I know an eddison - he is four and it hasn't been shortened!

brookeberry · 12/12/2015 21:32

I like Edison and Eddie (or Eddy!) Smile

RedToothBrush · 12/12/2015 22:31

Edison rocks.

Edward is fine but a bit ordinary. Edwin is fusty.
Edison is awesome.

delilabell · 13/12/2015 11:29

Dh is still not having it! I need to work on him!

I have an Edison. He goes by Ned but is only a toddler. I really like that he'll have lots of options when he's older along the Ted/Ed lines. Currently 37 wks pg and struggling to find a boys name I like as much so it would be easier if next one's a girl!

delilabell · 13/12/2015 13:51

Ned is a brilliant nickname! I'm going in for a second attack shortly :-)

OP posts:
MollyBloomYes · 13/12/2015 15:42

It definitely suits him!

Dungandbother · 13/12/2015 17:26

Good luck from the Eddy Eddie Teddy Ned Ted and Ed lovers

Thatrabbittrickedme · 13/12/2015 17:29

Edison sounds like an American trying to sound posh to me. Or a building.

reminds self am not supposed to comment on name threads and backs away

delilabell · 13/12/2015 18:23

My dad said it sounds like a lighthouse! thatrabbit
