I don't want Louis, btw :)

Louie (although I agree that Louis is 100 times preferable)

Can't be doing with Alfie.

KoalaDownUnder · 20/11/2015 13:20

I don't like Alfie at all.

Louie. Or, preferably, Louis.

tammytoby · 20/11/2015 14:59

Really dislike Alfie.

Louie is much nicer and I too prefer that spelling in the UK, otherwise can be pronounced Lou-is.

BadlyBehavedShoppingTrolley · 20/11/2015 14:59

I really dislike Alfie. Not much keen on Dylan either.

hobitty · 20/11/2015 15:07

Not keen on Archie/Alfie at all, sorry.

I'm not that keen on Louie but prefer it, of the two. Unless you're in France, the French version, Louis, will often be pronounced as Lewis. Like the city of St Louis in the US, for example.

MamaLazarou · 20/11/2015 16:55

"Louie is written right in front of you!"

If you're going to get so annoyed every time someone spells 'Louie' as 'Louis', I suggest you choose a different name.

Mordirig · 24/11/2015 01:18

Ugh, not Alfie, I hear that screeched 169,786,324 times on the school run.
Louie is nice, but not with Ethan, is there any other second name you like?

Bigpants4 · 24/11/2015 01:25

Laurie short for Laurence

Strokethefurrywall · 24/11/2015 01:36

Not Alfie, it's desperately overused at the moment. Old man names make me zzzzzz.

Louie/Louis much better but prefer Ethan over all of them.

Only like Dylan for a girl. I'm weird like that though!

chrome100 · 24/11/2015 15:15

I actually know a 30 year old barrister named Alfie and no one bats an eyelid Grin. Agree that you really should spell it "Louis" though.

SoftBlocks · 24/11/2015 15:18

Louis Dylan. Sorry I think it looks much better than Louie.

hobitty · 25/11/2015 14:13

Louie! Alfie is so overused and will date badly.

Notso · 25/11/2015 14:30

Alfie Dylan.

Alfie is fine as a given name. If he dislikes his name when he is older just as Alfred can be known as Alfie, Alfie can always decide to be Alfred or anything else for that matter. Names can be changed its no big problem.
Given everyone on the read says Alfie is overused chances are we will be over run with thirty year old barristers called Alfie anyway!

hobitty · 25/11/2015 15:13

But it doesn't matter if all the Alfies become barristers or teachers or plumbers, the point is the name is hugely overused and will fall out of fashion and sound dated.

VagueIdeas · 25/11/2015 15:17

Louie is so cutesy.

Louis is much more classy.

I know they sound the same, but the spelling makes a huge difference.

And there are all sorts high-charting names and variant spellings that are considered absolutely horrible, so popularity doesn't count for much Smile

titchy · 25/11/2015 15:21

Louie in same category as Emileeie imo. Go with the classic spelling unless you want people to judge...

Notso · 25/11/2015 15:55

Why does it matter if a name is popular or gets dated though. I genuinely don't see a problem. Names come in and out of popularity. It's just what happens.
I am yet to meet someone with a popular name from previous decades that has found it a hinderance. The majority of people I have met who truly dislike their name have had a really unique one.

hobitty · 25/11/2015 16:14

It may not bother some people, that's great.

The purpose of these boards is to share our opinions, and my opinion is that Alfie sounds overused, cutesy and I expect it to feel dated soon. But feel free to ignore my opinion Smile.

Lozza1990 · 25/11/2015 16:29

What's wrong with people? OP doesn't like Louis. You writing Louis will not change that.

Out of the two I prefer Louie by the way Smile

Notso · 25/11/2015 17:20

I was asking to hear an opinion hobitty. I can understand why people might not want their child to be one of 5 other Alfie's in the class.
I am interested in why a name becoming dated is seen as a bad thing by some people.

Jw35 · 25/11/2015 17:36

Louie real name Lawrence or Dylan as a first name

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/11/2015 17:53

Lozza we're trying to convince the op that Louis is about 1000x nicer than Louie.

VagueIdeas · 25/11/2015 18:16

Well my name is horribly dated (as in you can pretty much guess exactly when I was born +/- five years AND no babies get called it now) and I really dislike that. Classic names/spellings don't date.

VagueIdeas · 25/11/2015 18:17

Actually, what I meant to say is you can pretty much predict my birth year to within a five year period Smile

TheNewStatesman · 26/11/2015 03:08

Both very babyish sounding names, sorry.

And yes, Louie Ethan has a never-ending "eeeeeee" in the middle of it.

Ethan and Dylan as given names are both fine.
