Heard today:-

Spring-rose

At the doctors the other day was deliah-rose. Thought it was a misspell for Delilah but then maybe it's Delia?

And the when I worked in a nursery there was a little boy called deneil. Not too bad you say, till you knew his older brother was called Neil Hmm

Oh and the GC of this ghastly woman my DSM is friends with is called Sadhbh. I realise this is an Irish name, but this family are NOT Irish and they live in rural England. Poor girl must spend her entire life explaining how its pronounced (its Sive, btw).

I like Galen and Ginger - but then I rather like unusual names.

LumelaMme · 06/11/2015 18:41

In the US, Randy is not an uncommon nickname.

There's an American who lives near us who very, very, carefully ALWAYS introduces himself as Randall.

Buttercup27 · 06/11/2015 18:42

And hace taught a

Kragghooooooullllll · 06/11/2015 18:42

Barrington. With the father being of course Barry.

Terramirabilis · 06/11/2015 18:43

One remarkable one from my time here in the US:

Currie (female) (pronounced kuh-ree not curry)

FlysInDreams · 06/11/2015 18:44

I've met a Jaypaul

FuzzyWizard · 06/11/2015 19:00

juneau I taught a kid when I was doing my pgce called Aynul... I called the register in my first lesson "eye-null" and he piped up "it's anal, miss". I almost choked to death trying not to laugh... None of the kids batted an eyelid. I just couldn't believe that a class of 14 year olds didn't find it hilarious that their classmate was called anal. Then felt like a horrible human being because I was so shocked!

laurentperrier · 06/11/2015 19:03

Storm. ....For a little girl

Cerseirys · 06/11/2015 19:05

I knew a couple whose surname was Spark and they named their son Blade.

MrsJayy · 06/11/2015 19:09

GrouchyKiwi · 06/11/2015 19:12

I had a friend called Storm at primary school (a girl) so it doesn't seem unusual to me. I guess it is, though!

NotSoDesperateHousewife · 06/11/2015 19:14

Charisma
Kreon

Both just... Yes.

Gwenhwyfar · 06/11/2015 19:22

"Have also come accross a Lois which rather than being pronounced Low-iss, was more like Loi-s as in 'Oi you!'. That may be a variant but I'd never heard it before."

It's Welsh. Not particularly uncommon among Welsh speakers.

Gwenhwyfar · 06/11/2015 19:26

"My BIL's oldest brother is Berwyn, which I think is very unusual."

It's Welsh and the name of a mountain/mountain range near Bala as well as a man's name.

EvilTwins · 06/11/2015 19:30

I know a boy called CJ - not short for anything. And a girl called Nevaeh, which I always thought was an urban myth. Used to teach twins Cerise and Junior. Always felt a bit sorry for Junior - his sister had an actual name.

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 06/11/2015 19:40

Lymarra - apparently a body spray in the 80s

Amaleah

Strawberry (middle name)

All girls

Cuppaand2biscuits · 06/11/2015 19:43

Balthazar! He was a small baby and I thought what a big name for such a small person!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 06/11/2015 19:47

I also know a keyLee , not a bad or unusual name just a dreadful spelling of it. Why would you do that?

GrouchyKiwi · 06/11/2015 19:56

Gwenhwyfar Thank you. Hadn't come across it before.

bumpertobumper · 06/11/2015 19:59

AliceInHinterland · 06/11/2015 20:04

BlinkAndMiss · 06/11/2015 20:11

Ocean Husky was in front of us in the queue to have DS registered.

Today I met a Meadow, DS goes to nursery with Willow and my friend's little boy is called Johan.

Cerseirys · 06/11/2015 20:15

DP and DS a encountered a Thor and an Odin in the playground recently.

EssentialHummus · 06/11/2015 20:27

Blink - Johan is South African / Dutch

Nimrod (upthread) is probably Israeli

Metalhead · 06/11/2015 20:27

I heard a woman in Waitrose call her daughter Zelda (as in the computer game) over once, while DH got introduced to a baby Merlin in a pub.
