Heard today:-

Spring-rose

At the doctors the other day was deliah-rose. Thought it was a misspell for Delilah but then maybe it's Delia?

And the when I worked in a nursery there was a little boy called deneil. Not too bad you say, till you knew his older brother was called Neil Hmm

I know two Wednesdays.
A KT
And a Siam (female)

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 07/11/2015 19:16

Oh and I went to uni with Jet Thrust and Tallulah Moonlight.

Though they'd both changed their names by deed poll rather then those being the birth names.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 07/11/2015 20:36

I know an Ariadne. I think it's a beautiful name. Known as Ari.
How do all you teachers possibly manage to keep a straight face calling out the registrar.Tweety Pie and Lollypop. Sorry but I'd be ROFPMSL.
Why do parents give their children such potentially tease worthy names. Do they have nothing to think with.

ABCFamily · 07/11/2015 20:52

I used to work in an organisation where someone had legally changed their name to two numbers.

I won't give their actual name as they're (obviously) very Googleable, but their full name went something like Eight Twenty-two.

Marcipex · 07/11/2015 21:01

My sister has taught a Geeq , pronounced Geek, and a Christ.

Pretty, Beautiful, and Darling don't even raise an eyebrow in some boroughs.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 07/11/2015 21:03

A Christ. Confused.!!!!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 07/11/2015 21:03

Sorry meant to add. I've definitely heard it all now.

Micah · 07/11/2015 21:04

Who the- I knew a jet thrust! Knew him after he changed his name.

Marcipex · 07/11/2015 21:14

I suppose Christ is really no worse than Madonna.

One of the most inept names I've met personally ( a teachers child) must be Imogen with a hard g. As in g for goat.
Of course everyone gets it 'wrong'.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 07/11/2015 21:15

micah. Must be the same bloke. He went to Teeside uni and used to doodle a little aeroplane for his signature. Would be in his 40s now I guess.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 07/11/2015 21:17

I wonder if he's still Jet Thrust? Was 20 years ago I knew him.

Micah · 07/11/2015 21:18

Yep. Same one :). Met him in one of the boro student hang outs I think.

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 07/11/2015 21:18

Keavy
Kinsy
Darcee Rai

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 07/11/2015 21:19

marmaladegranny · 07/11/2015 21:20

Years ago I had a patient, a delightful chap, named Hyacinth.
DS went to school with a KT as mentioned up thread.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 07/11/2015 21:24

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 07/11/2015 21:29

Avalynne - all one word.
Kennedy (girl)
Navaeh

Diesel (boy)

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 07/11/2015 21:35

My uncle has a good friend called Jesus. It's quite common in Portugal (I think, could be Spain?)

Lweji · 07/11/2015 21:40

More likely Spain.
Although some people do use "de Jesus" as middle names.

Lweji · 07/11/2015 21:42

In Portugal is used the name Jacinto (a male name), which means Hyacinth.
It's old fashioned anyway...

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 07/11/2015 21:43

Button - Those names have been lifted from Freakonomics.

I met an Effraseeny (that spelling us probably rubbish). Fairly unusual Greek name she said. Went by Effy.

I also knew a male Hyacinth. I think those names as quite common in certain African countries.

Heard a Stryder in the supermarket recently. Not normally one for weird names but thought it was quite cool. Tinchy fans maybe?

Lweji · 07/11/2015 21:44

I know a Greek man called Christos. I think it's fairly common.

And a couple of Israel from Spain.

ButtonMoon88 · 07/11/2015 22:03

Libraries- what's freakonomics Blush I've not made it up, I really looked after children with those names!

TiggyD · 07/11/2015 22:06

Honey-Boo. Hopefully she won't be a goth when she's older.

Lweji · 07/11/2015 22:07

She could then go by Ho-Bo, or something.
