I usually detest surnames as first names (sorry to be harsh) but Blake is one of the only exceptions to the rule for me... Prefer it for a boy but ok for a girl too (probably because of the Blake Lively connection).

Ifiwasabadger · 13/10/2015 19:40

Love it.

TRexingInAsda · 13/10/2015 19:53

It's an improvement on Riley for a girl, and the two 'go' together. I wouldn't pick it personally though. If you like it, you probably should try to give much less of a toss what other people think.

SunshineAndShadows · 13/10/2015 19:56

Great 'advice TRexing have you posted that on all of the baby name threads?

BondJayneBond · 13/10/2015 19:56

Not keen. The only Blake's I've met have been male.

scatterthenuns · 13/10/2015 19:57

I quite like it. I like unisex names.

RabbitSaysWoof · 13/10/2015 20:00

I really like it. Smile

NotTodaySatan · 13/10/2015 20:01

It goes against all my naming rules but I love it!

Hollyoaksfan · 13/10/2015 20:01

My boyfriend is called Blake. Only woman I know is Blake lively. Upto you though! Riley I see as a male name also so Blake and Riley probably would suit together for you

BertrandRussell · 13/10/2015 20:02

It's not a unisex name. It's a last name which is sometimes used for boys. There is no such thing as a unisex name- there are boy's names which are used for girls and then stop being boy's names and become girl's names. Because people won't give a bit a name perceived to be a girl's name. Which is worth thinking about.

Kcooper26 · 13/10/2015 20:04

Excuse me TRexingInAsda but Riley is my little girls name so id appreciate if you wouldnt be nasty about it as no1 asked ur opinion on that name!!

I know sisters named; Rylee, Hailey, and Blaike.

scatterthenuns · 13/10/2015 20:06

Disagree wholeheartedly. Understand what you are saying about Blake as a boys name now used for girls, but names like Alex are truly unisex.

TRexingInAsda · 13/10/2015 20:34

If you don't want name opinions, don't ask, that's the height of fucking ridiculous!!

You need to either stop being sensitive about what other people think, or stop fucking asking them what they think!

FWIW, I never gave an opinion on the name Riley. I gave an opinion on the name Blake (which is what you asked for) comparative to Riley. I like one more than the other. Fucking hell, get a grip!

Not keen personally. But I don't like the whole surname /boys name on girls thing. You obviously do so go for it. People won't be totally flummoxed because of Blake Lively.

Actually- Alex is probably the only truly unisex name- and Francis/es.

BertrandRussell · 13/10/2015 21:03

Gosh. You are a bit cross, aren't you!

Only1scoop · 13/10/2015 21:05

Don't think it goes with your other dd.

Sounds like a male called 'Blake Riley' when you say them together.

Only1scoop · 13/10/2015 21:06

Classy expletives OpShock

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 13/10/2015 21:06

There are some truly unisex nicknames - Alex and Sam being the most obvious. Most others have a gender indicator in the spelling - Jo/Joe, Tony/Toni etc. There are very few totally unisex names. Mostly because once a name becomes known on girls it is considered unusable for boys.

Littlefish · 13/10/2015 21:07

Kcooper - your last comment is completely uncalled for. Mumsnet is a forum where people give their views and opinions. If you don't want people to disagree with you, then Mumsnet is really not the place for you. You cannot dictate who posts on threads, whether you started them or not.

TRexingInAsda · 13/10/2015 21:10

Vile human?????!! Seriously - just for answering a 'what do think of this name' thread with what I thought of a name? As for 'who I think I am', er, I think I'm someone answering the fucking question you asked, you fuckwit. Honestly, I can't tell if you're just a moron or a troll. Clearly a complete bell-end, obviously, I'm just not sure if it's on purpose.
