Margot or Marlowe as baby sister for Archer?

Which baby girl name to you prefer; the more traditional Margot - or the more alternative Marlowe? We're still looking for the right baby girl name, to go with our son's name which is Archer (nn Archie sometimes).

Definitely Margot.
I love it.

celtictoast · 09/10/2015 09:52

I much prefer Marlowe.

AuntieStella · 09/10/2015 10:07

Marlowe is usually a boys name (or at least that's the only way I've come across it in RL).

So I'd go for Margot.

celtictoast · 09/10/2015 10:10

Marla, Marlena, Melissa?

BondGate · 09/10/2015 10:12

Margot.

Marlowe feels very masculine to me.

ConesOfDunshire · 09/10/2015 12:21

Margot. Agree that Marlowe is a boys' name.

Sophronia · 09/10/2015 12:23

I prefer Margot but I think Marlowe goes better with Archer. You could alternatively spell it Marlo.

If you give children surnames as first names nobody will ever know what gender they are when seeing the names written down.

RJnomaaaaaargh · 09/10/2015 21:04

Marlowe.

I like strong names for girls. Plus I can't forget how mason Berger said "mar got" in Hannibal.

Shudder.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 09/10/2015 21:46

Marlowe. Providing your last name isn't Barlowe. Grin

NameChange30 · 09/10/2015 21:47

Megan? Goes well with Archer I think. But I like Margot too. Not Marlowe!

RJnomaaaaaargh · 09/10/2015 21:48

Or harlowe!Grin

MargoReadbetter · 09/10/2015 21:51

Neither or Margot if you really are stuck.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 09/10/2015 21:52

Margot is lovely.

I don't think of Marlow as alternative. More the trend for giving boys names to girls. Like celebs with Maxwell and Harlow.

RiverTam · 09/10/2015 21:56

I would go for Marlowe as it works better with Archer.

weebarra · 09/10/2015 21:57

Margot. Marlowe just makes me think of stabbed playwrights.

JasperDamerel · 09/10/2015 21:59

Margot. It's far cooler.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 09/10/2015 21:59

That too weebarra!

Secondtimeround75 · 09/10/2015 22:00

Margot

MajesticWhine · 09/10/2015 22:00

Margot.
Is Marlowe really a girl's name Confused

CakeRattleandRoll · 10/10/2015 03:14

Definitely Margot. Agree with PPs that Marlowe is boy's name.

Sharkey5 · 10/10/2015 07:56

Love Margot.

Vixxfacee · 10/10/2015 14:49

Marlow

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 10/10/2015 15:56

Marlowe for a girl is lovely. It sounds too feminine for a boy so im surprised so many think of it as a boys' name

Margot is too old lady. If your DS was Archie short for Archibald, then I'd suggest carrying on the theme for older names, but as you've gone with the much cooler Archer then Marlowe is a great choice.

Archer and Marlowe, really nice.

SoDiana · 10/10/2015 16:04

This reminds me of sitting in a park in fulham and PRESTON being called every 30 seconds. Preston was a little shit.
Marlowe to me would be either a surname or boys name.
Actually come to think of it wasnt there a film about a dog called Marlowe?
