What do we think?

This is DH's favourite name. He loves it more than any other, and as we haven't yet agreed on any other name I'm inclined to go with it (if we have a girl). I didn't think I would ever see him excited by a name, and it's really growing on me!

His argument is that it's pretty, strong and It's unusual without being crazy. It works internatonally if she's a globe trotter.
It shortens to Annie, Angie, or Jelly is cute when she's a baby. He also likes the meaning and the religious connotations. We also have a one syllable surname which it works perfectly with.

She will be half Irish, half English, living in England (probably) and most likely fair or red haired. I think of it as more of a European name but I'm not sure why. I guess I just don't know any English Angelicas, not that it matters.

My only concern is rug rats but i dont think kids watch that now, and I only have warm memories of the programme. It's not enough to put us off. She will be our little rug rat!

Any opinions welcome! Smile

It's awful. Very silly and sickly sweet.

Daphnedolittle · 01/10/2015 07:22

I think we are going to go with it! It seems that most people like it but not too many. I think it's marmite enough to never become trendy which I like.

I immediately think of cake decoration! (It is quite pretty on a cake).

Daphnedolittle · 01/10/2015 13:48

I haven't heard of the cake decoration. To be fair I'm not much of a baker! Blush

I love it. I know one adult Angelica who doesn't shorten it at all and I think it's so pretty and stylish.

I don't think I would ever use Angie or Jelly from choice! (I know kids choose their own nicknames)

Mehitabel6 · 03/10/2015 17:36

The crystallised cake decoration comes from a plant so no reason not to use it. Lots of names come from plants.

celtictoast · 03/10/2015 19:26

There could be worse things to be named after than a cake decoration! No need to let it put you off Smile

I think it's a beautiful name, uncommon but not too unusual. Go for it!

Daphnedolittle · 03/10/2015 20:31

Really surprised by how many nice comments there are. Thanks all! Smile
I've always been such a name nerd I never thought a name would pop up that I hadn't thought of. DH is feeling very pleased with himself!

They were an awesome band and it's a lovely name!

Footle · 03/10/2015 20:46

Exactly, it's a rather beautiful plant. Use it !

HerdOfRhino · 04/10/2015 21:45

I like it.

There's a tv presenter called Angelica Bell.

HerdOfRhino · 04/10/2015 21:48

I have just Googled the tv presenter spells it with 2 l's

almapudden · 04/10/2015 22:08

I do associate it with the Rugrats character, but I also teach a nice 13 year old Angelica who isn't a brat! It's not my cup of tea but it's a perfectly nice name.

SunshineAndShadows · 05/10/2015 16:14

I know a wonderful Angelika (pronounced An-jel-ee-ka)

It's a great name - strong and cool
