What do we think?

This is DH's favourite name. He loves it more than any other, and as we haven't yet agreed on any other name I'm inclined to go with it (if we have a girl). I didn't think I would ever see him excited by a name, and it's really growing on me!

His argument is that it's pretty, strong and It's unusual without being crazy. It works internatonally if she's a globe trotter.
It shortens to Annie, Angie, or Jelly is cute when she's a baby. He also likes the meaning and the religious connotations. We also have a one syllable surname which it works perfectly with.

She will be half Irish, half English, living in England (probably) and most likely fair or red haired. I think of it as more of a European name but I'm not sure why. I guess I just don't know any English Angelicas, not that it matters.

My only concern is rug rats but i dont think kids watch that now, and I only have warm memories of the programme. It's not enough to put us off. She will be our little rug rat!

Any opinions welcome! Smile

It's a bit sickly sweet for me but it's not the worst name ever.

NotTodaySatan · 30/09/2015 12:14

It's a bit frilly and flouncy yet the 'lick' sounds is harsh to my ear.

Not a mad fan.

whatdoIget · 30/09/2015 12:16

I like the green stuff on cakes, not sure about the name though. It does have a number of nicknames, which is good.

Daphnedolittle · 30/09/2015 12:21

Thanks for the opinions!

I didn't think if it as being girly or sickly/flouncy. I always fall for girly names Blush I guess if she finds it too girly the opinion of Annie or Angie is there at least.

I think it is pretty. The rugrats character would put me off but that's only because I visualise her every time I see it - I don't think kids her age will know it.

Daphnedolittle · 30/09/2015 14:56

Glad someone likes it! Smile

I think it's lovely. I would associate it with Rugrats too, but children these days wouldn't as it's been off TV for some time.

Have you considered Angelina? It's quite similar but with a slightly different sound Smile

IsadoraQuagmire · 30/09/2015 15:40

It's my name, and I absolutely love it, it's the prettiest name ever Smile
I wouldn't let anyone call me Angie or Annie though! I mostly go by Angel, though I use my full name too because it's so beautiful.

Daphnedolittle · 30/09/2015 16:42

fly I like Angelina but it's a bit too associated with Jolie for me. Plus I like the 'Ica' sound. I also like Jessica which has a similar sound.

isadora Ahh we have a real life Angelica on the thread Grin do you live in England? Do you ever get any annoying rug rats comments? Angel is a nice nickname too!

RustyNailbrush · 30/09/2015 16:53

Angelene, Anna, Annie, Angelina are all nicer imo.

Angelica just makes me think of this.

IsadoraQuagmire · 30/09/2015 16:55

Daphne, nobody's ever mentioned Rugrats to me! (I am at college in London at the moment, but grew up in California) I think Angel's the most common shortening of Angelica - I've never actually met another, but heard of a few!??

IsadoraQuagmire · 30/09/2015 16:57

Those question marks were supposed to be a smiling face incidentally! Maybe it's just my phone not displaying properly though!

Lunastarfish · 30/09/2015 16:57

It's a great name.

whatdoIget · 30/09/2015 16:59

I think of this

MissMarpleCat · 30/09/2015 17:00

I like it Smile

FanOfSpam · 30/09/2015 17:04

It's a bit saccharine and Angie is rough.

Daphnedolittle · 30/09/2015 17:06

I actually find the rugrat thing quite cute!

Beautiful name. Lovely nicknames From it. I do tend to think of the yummy cake decorations though!
I have a friend call Angelique which is think is gorgeous.

BuckyLastard · 30/09/2015 17:13

I like it it does make me think of rug rats or the child in emmerdale BUT you'd be hard pushed to find a name without a connection to something.

Zhabr · 30/09/2015 17:30

I like Angelique. Have you read books by Anne and Serge Golon?

Daphnedolittle · 30/09/2015 18:29

I'm not so keen on Angelique. It's a nice name for someone else but it feels almost a bit fancy for us.
I'm liking it more and more, thanks mumsnetters!

I like the name Angelica and Annie for nickname.

villainousbroodmare · 30/09/2015 19:54

I really like it.
For all the reasons you've mentioned.
Smile

Ladypug · 30/09/2015 22:48

I just think of Angelica Huston and I think she is awesome so I say go for it :-)

Onedirectionarestillloved · 30/09/2015 22:58

I don't think young children will remember Rugrats, it's adults who make the connection.

I don't like Angelique. I have only ever met one and she was most unpleasant.
