For a girl? I love it, dh raised his eyebrows.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MissBattleaxe · 26/09/2015 20:51

OP- Joely is one option- pronounced Joe-ELLEE. Jolie is pronounced JOE-lee not Jolly.

MitzyLeFroof · 26/09/2015 20:55

Aeons ago I remember temping in a place where a colleague's new grandchild was called............

JOLLY SWALLOW!

At best it sounds like a pirate's ship, at worst it sounds like..............

mrsschu · 26/09/2015 20:55

I'm pretty sure the OP isn't serious... Even for MN it's a ludicrous name. It's like saying you're going to call your child Plump or Boring or some other nonsense.

RJnomaaaaaargh · 26/09/2015 20:58

Jolly swallow?

AH HAHAHAHAHA

Sorry.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 26/09/2015 20:58

Jolly swallow Grin

Don't do it OP.

DickDewy · 26/09/2015 21:00

No. Tantamount to abuse.

YellowOfficeBlock · 26/09/2015 21:01

Oh good grief!
Please give your child a name that's ACTUALLY A NAME!!!!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 26/09/2015 21:03

Jolie is nice, like Jolie Richardson. Is that how you mean it to be pronounced OP? But not Jolly, like the jolly green giant, surely.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/09/2015 21:53

"DH raised his eyebrows". I can't for the life of me fathom whyHmm

MidnightVelvetthe3rd · 27/09/2015 07:51

I'd have thought you misunderstood the name Jolyon is a boys name tbh

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 27/09/2015 07:56

Sorry but Jolly is just cruel. I know you don't mean it to be but imagine being an angst-ridden teenager and having to introduce yourself as Jolly. Or trying to be taken seriously as an adult with that name.

AuntieStella · 27/09/2015 08:01

I really don't care much for boys' names given to girls.

Jolly is a nn for Jolyon.

I know one in RL.

Pixi2 · 27/09/2015 08:14

How about Merryn? Nn Merry?

helentheheron · 27/09/2015 10:10

Pixi beat me to it - Merryn nn Merry would be a lovely alternative

TurboTheChicken · 27/09/2015 10:25

I assume you'll by using Holliday as a middle name?

SilverOldie2 · 27/09/2015 11:48

You beat me to it Turbo :)

Jolly is silly and not a name.

MythicalKings · 27/09/2015 11:49

Very silly.

MamaLazarou · 27/09/2015 12:19

I don't like it. It makes me think of clowns.

lastqueenofscotland · 27/09/2015 13:46

I know a jolyon who is a boy.

I think it's cute for a baby but beyond about age 9 months it's just ridiculous

villainousbroodmare · 27/09/2015 13:53

I think it's daft.

PallasCat · 30/09/2015 18:26

Joelle, Joely, Jolene, Jolie, Juliet, Joy...
Maybe even Olivia, Olive, Iolanthe or Josephine.

These are names that could feasibly be nn-ified to Jolly.

Now I love an alternative, unusual name. Jolly is not one of these. By all means as an informal nn - but it's not a name.
