Then the little guys mate turned up shouting "hi Denver"

Different, but I don't think I would would use it.

So it's in the American sounding place name or surname, ending in er, trend. Not one I've heard before. No strong feelings either way.

swimmerforlife · 24/09/2015 12:48

I really like it, but I have a soft spot for place names and Denver is a gorgeous city.

That said, not sure I would be brave enough to use it.

Every1KnowsJeffHesUsuallyACunt · 24/09/2015 12:52

My dc went to a church group with a little girl called Denver in the last week of the summer holidays.

I'd never heard it before that. Its different. I don't mind it.

Wishful80smontage · 24/09/2015 12:53

I met a little toddler called Hudson yesterday similar vibe I like it but I wouldn't use it I prefer traditional names but made a change from all the Freddie's and Noah's round here.

MrsBalustradeLanyard · 24/09/2015 12:55

I met a Camden last week. Meh, each to their own. Smile

AuntieStella · 24/09/2015 12:55

I know a Denver in RL. An adult man. It really wouldn't have occurred to me that it was a girls name (I'm not wild about surnamey names anyhow).

ShowOfHands · 24/09/2015 13:02

A distant relative has just had a Brandon. Which is fairly acceptable as a name but I live very near to a place named Brandon (it's a very unpleasant place in many ways) and to me, it's like calling a baby Crouch End.

acatcalledjohn · 24/09/2015 13:05

Is their surname 'John' by any chance? Grin

NickNacks · 24/09/2015 13:14

I know a Dallas (girl).

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 24/09/2015 13:15

DS was at nursery with a Kentucky (girl) in New Jersey.

I thought it was more of a boys name personally!

LauraChant · 24/09/2015 13:20

I quite like it but it reminds me of that awful book Denver by the Mr Benn writer, with the feckless poor who can't be trusted with money and the rich who are there by the grace of God.

Minimaus · 24/09/2015 13:49

Seems like a good name: It's easy to say, spell and not overused.

MamaLazarou · 24/09/2015 16:54

I like it.

FartemisOwl · 24/09/2015 16:59

Brandon could have been worse - they could have called him Thetford Grin

mrsschu · 24/09/2015 17:32

Sounds pretty ridiculous IMO. But then I'm not a fan of American names generally. Funny that it's "trendy" to call your child after an Amercian town/city/area eg Brooklyn, Denver, Kentucky, whatever but yet no one thinks it's cool to call their child Maidstone, Exeter or Stoke...same principle really!

FelixFelix · 24/09/2015 17:37

I think it's quite cute. I know a baby Alaska from a group I went to when I lived in a proper rough part of Leeds. It just sounds like 'I'll ask her.'

SmugairleRoin · 24/09/2015 18:01

Oh feck, no. Terrible name.

And Alaska to me is a famous drag queen with an...eh unique voice (look her up Grin ) I just can't picture a baby Alaska without hearing a drag queen drawl!

Vixxfacee · 24/09/2015 18:04

Plenty of place names heard
Brixton
Camden
Montana
Devon
Darlaston
Harlem & Cuba (twins boy and girl )

Pigeonpost · 24/09/2015 18:07

There is a Hudson (girl) in DS2's class.

And I concur on the Brandon front, hideous place, awful name!

Artandco · 24/09/2015 18:20

Place wise, I know a London, Egypt and Sahara

Iloveonionchutney · 24/09/2015 18:30

In my dd's school there is a Kal-el!

EdithWeston · 24/09/2015 18:33

Isn't Florence originally a place name? The one given to the other Nightingale, Parthenope, didn't catch on in the same way.

SteamPunkGoth · 24/09/2015 18:33

I love Camden as a name. Denver is fine as well.
I work in a school. Some of the names & spellings would have this site descend into meltdown!

Lolimax · 24/09/2015 18:35

Brandon is very common here in South Wales. DD is 18 and had 3 in her year.

SmugairleRoin · 24/09/2015 18:35

Thinking about it now I do know a Sochi (like the winter Olympics place, yes) and a Sydney.
Isn't Alec Baldwins daughter called Ireland? Or is it some other celeb?
