Is Hunter a chav name?

All of our possible names have been used by friends - that old dilemma!! Really struggling until we decided on Hunter James - surname is short and ends 'ie'. Someone I work with said this was chavy unknowingly to them it's our only boys name!! All opinions welcome!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AngelaRipp0n · 20/09/2015 09:34

Are you American?

ProfessorPickles · 20/09/2015 09:34

I wouldn't say it's a chav name no, it feels like a middle class name to me but I still don't like it if I'm honest with you OP. I prefer James myself!
If it's a name you and your dp like then use it, sod what everyone else thinks!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 20/09/2015 09:34

it's a dog's name.

Olafscarrotnose · 20/09/2015 09:35

I don't think its chav but a little try hard unless you're American.

WoodleyPixie · 20/09/2015 09:35

I really like the name Hunter, but I'm not sure if it isn't common/tacky/chavvy.

MythicalKings · 20/09/2015 09:35

Not MC - don't like the word Chav but it fits.

floatyflo · 20/09/2015 09:38

I don't know if it's 'chavvy' but it's definitely hideous! Sorry!

AuntieStella · 20/09/2015 09:38

I'm not wild about surname names (sorry) and think this one is very American sounding.

And because it's not that common a first name here, I think the meaning of the vocabulary word might be a little more apparent than some others. And that'll mean bloodsports in UK - are you OK with that?

Debinaround · 20/09/2015 09:39

I don't think it's chavy. It makes me think of Rodney Blackstock from Emmerdale. It's his gigalo name Grin. Also makes me think of hunters chicken.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 20/09/2015 09:40

I don't think it's chavvy at all, and it fits into the current trend of using surnames as first names. Not my first choice, but I'm a traditionalist!

The thing is, if YOU like it, then use it. Trends change, what is considered all sorts of wrong now will be all the rage in a few years' time again, so really, choose the name you like :)

LizzieVereker · 20/09/2015 09:50

If you like it, use it Thanks

However, if you're looking for something unusual, I will say that there has been a huge explosion of Hunter/Carter/Fletcher type names round these parts of late.

SmugairleRoin · 20/09/2015 10:52

I'd say it sounds more American than chavvy, though I can see it being chavvy too...

I don't personally like it but it's not a ridiculous name.

Cerseirys · 20/09/2015 10:53

Its fine as long as you don't call your other sons Ryder, Fisher and Shooter!

Chimchar · 20/09/2015 11:02

It's a gladiators name. Grin

Narp · 20/09/2015 11:08

I'm not keen on surname-type names. In addition, this one's very 'masculine-sounding' and therefore may not suit him.

NicholasName · 20/09/2015 11:10

Not "chavvy" as such (not like Kaedie-Leigh or Jaidan or something) but I can't think of a better word for it...

It's definitely ... 'Something' and probably chavvy is the closest word I can think of.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/09/2015 11:13

I love it! Not chavvy at all.

NerrSnerr · 20/09/2015 11:15

Makes me think of the Gladiators!

Jollyphonics · 20/09/2015 11:18

Hunter is the new Jaiden. Really chavvy I think.

Jollyphonics · 20/09/2015 11:20

James is lovely though, and there won't be many of them around when your son starts school.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 20/09/2015 11:21

I like it, it reminds me of Hunter S Thompson

AlpacaLypse · 20/09/2015 11:22

I know a black Labrador called Hunter.

If I saw the name in a school roll, I'd wonder (a) if it was a boy or a girl and (b) if the parents had been watching American tv when thinking about names.

James is a family name for us so I'm so close to it that I can't see the woods for the trees about it.

RJnomaaaaaargh · 20/09/2015 11:23

Not chavvy to me. If I had a son he would be hunter as it's an old family name on my dads side.

Tiredemma · 20/09/2015 11:24

Reminds me of Gladiators?

MNemonica · 20/09/2015 11:29

Hmm, I'm on the fence about this one.

Plus it depends on your surname.

If your surname is Fox don't go for itGrin
