Names that go with Margaret?

Have been trying (and failing!) to come up with a girl's name that both I and Mr. Pingu agree upon. My gran (who I was very close to) was named Margaret and if we had a girl I'd like to use that as a middle name (and we've agreed on that, at least). But struggling a bit with a first name.

I like Emily but given that it was the most popular girl's name in Scotland last year am a bit reluctant - ideally wouldn't want her to be one of several girls with the same name in her P1 class. Eilidh is nice (and also Scottish) and I think it goes pretty well with Margaret, but Mr. Pingu's not convinced.
Any suggestions? Ideally something relatively traditional and if possible something Scottish. Nothing too out-there as she would be going to a state school in Glasgow so for example 'Ophelia' won't work!

Capewrath · 12/09/2015 09:13

I prefer Kirsten with nn Kirsty, must admit.

Forgot to mention Lorna as another wrath name, and quite a few scots Lornas around at work with me. Lorna Margaret works for me.
We have an Eileen in the family, don't like that so much.

We also have a Merran, which I like.

I think Louise is in a similar vein to the other names you like?

GeraldineFangedVagine · 13/09/2015 19:20

I've got a Mary Margaret, it suits her ;)

RiverTam · 13/09/2015 19:21

I wouldn't worry about names being a mouthful, DD was at nursery with an Elizabeth and is at school with a Margaret, neither shortened, and I've never heard of either being a problem.

Janeymoo50 · 15/09/2015 13:42

Imogen Margaret.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/09/2015 13:49

I was going to say Margaret Rose until I realised you wanted Margaret as the middle name.

What about Fiona? I think Fiona Margaret goes ok.

I like Eleanor/Elinor Margaret
Alethea (more Irish than Scottish though) Margaret
Catriona (or would it be Katrina?) Margaret
Eveline Margaret (but I know Eve/Evie are quite popular at the moment)
Elspeth Margaret
Alannah Margaret

Lots of good suggestions, thank you all very much :)

Louise is nice but together with the boy's surname is a bit alliterative which for some reason I'm not keen on (Lauren was dismissed for the same reason)

Kathryn (or Katherine) was a name we'd considered briefly but I wasn't sure about - think it's growing on me now though.

Fiona and Kirsten are both good too.

I think some of the Irish names are possibly a bit OTT for the west of Scotland (sadly) - I have a name that (to a lot of Scottish/Northern Irish people) marks me out immediately as a catholic and would like to avoid that with any sprogs if possible.

Margot is lovely too (as is Marguerite) but think I'd prefer Margaret tbh.

Of course after this it's certain to be a boy...

Would Alannah be too Irish?

Capewrath · 17/09/2015 22:50

Only just spotted Dementor on pinguina. Grin

Capewrath · 17/09/2015 23:07

A few more

Went to school with

Ailsa

Ghislaine

Fenella

There was also a Grizzel, aka Griselda, and a Sheelagh and a Sheena, and Shan. But some were Scots Irish.

There are masses of Islas around here at the moment.

daisydalrymple · 17/09/2015 23:27

The queen's sister was of course Margaret rose...
Rosina Margaret
Rosemary Margaret
Rosie Margaret

I do love Eleanor Margaret too

(Probably not surprising that dc3 would have been Rosie Eleanor if a girl Smile )

mathanxiety · 18/09/2015 04:54

On the same theme -- Rosa Margaret?

Or
Rosalba
Rosanna

daisydalrymple · 18/09/2015 07:13

Ooh yes math I like rosa better than my suggestions with Margaret! Closely followed by Rosie Smile
And Rosanna is lovely too!

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 18/09/2015 09:47

Eleanor Margaret was my first thought

Sezramum · 18/09/2015 10:25

My DS has the middle name of Margaret and her first name is Helen. I like this combo as Helen is traditional but not 'popular' at the moment. I also like Helena as an alternative which would also go nicely.

Good luck with your choices Smile

IAmAPaleontologist · 18/09/2015 10:33

I have a Margaret Anne. We tend to use the diminutive Daisy.

Eleanor Margaret is nice. Or how about using Greta for example instead of Margaret?

Edith Margaret? Or Edythea?

Wandastartup · 18/09/2015 11:03

Margaret known as Meg?
