Jed... Just Jed

I am not a fan of popular names, but don't want something 'way-out' there either. However, I'm worried that it's too reminiscent of those lunatics, Jedward. What are your thoughts?

Boys names are the hardest.

Others currently on the list are Hal, Aled and Howell.

If this baby is a boy, I fear it will be nameless.

I would be thinking of Jedward tbh.

Do you like Ned, Alec, Joel, Jared?

ThatBloodyWoman · 16/08/2015 21:12

I would think of Jediah.
Had I had a boy,it was going to be our choice.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 16/08/2015 21:12

It's fine, jedward are more or less forgotten about.

UrethraFranklin1 · 16/08/2015 22:01

Love it.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 16/08/2015 22:05

I like it.

Littlefish · 16/08/2015 22:07

I taught a Jedd. He was one of the most divine children I've ever met!

peppercold · 16/08/2015 22:08

Love it!

Ficidy · 16/08/2015 22:10

Littlefish, he spelt it with two ds? Was it short for anything? Thanks.

I like it. I would never have thought if jedward, surely they're not in anyone's radar anymore?

Stars66 · 16/08/2015 22:13

I really like it

Ficidy · 16/08/2015 22:14

PS Thanks SmugairleRoin, I like those names, esp Nedand Alec and also like Joel, but too similar to a nephew's name.

Jared is a really cool name, I''ve only ever met one .

LMLytton · 16/08/2015 22:14

In Black Country dialect it's the word for dead, so it's a no from me.

NeedsMoreCowBell · 16/08/2015 22:16

I like it.
A strong, country name Smile

PurpleDaisies · 16/08/2015 22:19

The only Jed I know of is Jed (josiah) Bartlett who is the president in the West Wing. That is definitely a positive in my book!

I like it.

LegArmpits · 16/08/2015 22:20

Love Jed, also Jared.

Nyborg · 16/08/2015 22:21

Bear in mind that Ged is a very common name amongst older men - 50/60s. I'm from a big family, and I have 3 x uncles called Ged (one on each side, one married in).

Babymamamama · 16/08/2015 22:22

Usually short for jeremy. I like jed. Not too overly popular.

Eminybob · 16/08/2015 22:22

What about Ged if Jed makes you think of Jedward?

Sophronia · 16/08/2015 22:24

I know an (American) one short for Jedidiah. I also know a Judd, which is quite similar.

AlwaysOneMissing · 16/08/2015 22:24

Love Jed.
I think he'll be one of the cool kids.
And no thoughts of Jedward from me either.

achieve6 · 16/08/2015 22:28

Jed Bartlet springs to mind immediately.

would not have thought of Jedward if someone else hadn't said it.

Littlefish · 16/08/2015 23:03

Ficidy - Yes, Jedd with a double d at the end. It wasn't short for anything, but I think he had two middle names.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 16/08/2015 23:08

Jed is a pretty established nickname for John Edward though. I nearly chose it for youngest DS just before the terrible twins got their five minutes of fame. Still really like it actually.

FiL is Ged and he is Gerrard.

Micah · 16/08/2015 23:14

Purple/achieve

Josiah Bartlett is a surgeon from Boston general in St Elsewhere.

Apparently he is also one of signatories of the Declaration of Independence, so Google tells me.

I like jed. Have known a few, short for Jeremy, Gerard...
