Primrose Bluebell or Daphne

Daphnedolittle · 15/08/2015 12:08

Which one do you prefer? I like flower names but find some of them a bit too overused now. I realise these names are unusual and won't be to everyone's taste but I really like them.
Primrose would be Prim or Posy day to day, but she always has the option of Rose
Bluebell would be Blue
Daphne would be Daphie or just full name

I don't want to pick a name that is difficult to live with so am interested in if you know any girls/women with these names, and do they like their name?

If we don't go for one of these we will probably go with Matilda or Penelope but I don't like these anywhere near as much.

TIA

I've always loved Primrose. Bluebell is a bit too flowery I think and it reminds me of Geri Halliwell.

Daphne...don't like at all I'm afraid. I do like Pearl and Tabitha though.

Daphnedolittle · 15/08/2015 12:13

Thanks House. Pearl is lovely but we have a one syllable surname so it sounds a bit short. Tabitha is another one we have considered so you have a good idea of our taste.

I find all of those quite twee, best being Daphne.
Any of these appeal?

I like Bryony and Jonquil, kinda taken with Acacia too but I'm not sure that it's a name yet.

TheHouseOnTheLane · 15/08/2015 12:16

Yes...your taste is basically the same as mine! Grin

Daphnedolittle · 15/08/2015 12:33

Villainous - I like some of the names on the list - Marigold, Daffodil and Posey. But I think these might be even more twee Blush

My favourite is definite Daphne.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/08/2015 12:41

Primrose is lovely. Not so keen on the others. I take it you've ruled out Rose, Lily and Jasmine? I quite like Rose and Lily but they are used a lot now.

What about Hazel or Laurel or Rosemary? I wouldn't say any of those are twee. Tansy is another flower name I like.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 15/08/2015 12:42

Bluebell yes it's very flowery pretty and frilly but is that so terrible on a girl. Don't like Primrose or Daphne

VinoTime · 15/08/2015 12:44

Daphne and Primrose are my favourites - I love them.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/08/2015 12:44

Daisy
Marguerite
Ivy
Lilac
Dahlia (I have known one person with this name - she was quite flamboyant, and I think you would need to be!)
Violet/Viola
Rowan

Daphnedolittle · 15/08/2015 12:48

Thanks gasp. Rose is a bit short with our one syllable surname and I figured Primrose could always shorten to that. It doesn't excite me enough. Lily is too popular for me.
I like Hazel, only thing is it might shorten to Hayz and it reminds me of a hayley that was a bully at school.
I know a Rosemary, so that's out.
I'd never considered Laurel! I'll pop that on the list Smile

Jasmine reminds me of princess Jasmine in Alladin. Not such a bad thing but this baby will likely be fair, freckly and maybe even red haired so can't imagine a Jasmine looking like that.

I like Daisy from the second list ????

Primrose seems to be most popular so far!

I love bluebell :)

insanityscatching · 15/08/2015 13:04

I like Primrose best but then I have a Rosie. I like Daphne as well but Bluebell reminds me of Geri Halliwell. What about Delphine or Iris or Camellia or Flora?

Daphnedolittle · 15/08/2015 13:09

I like Flora out of those, but DH doesn't.
I wish Bluebell hadn't been used by Geri!

Love Primrose and Daphne not so keen on Bluebell. There are also a lot of Belle names around

My pick would be Daphne as it sounds cute on a little girl but also is solid as an adult name. Plus it is uncommon which is always a bonus Grin

Daphnedolittle · 15/08/2015 13:33

To those that like Daphne - do you like Daphie? I think it's inevitable as a nickname and I'm not sure if it's cute or awful!

OP posts:
TheHouseOnTheLane · 15/08/2015 15:29

I don't like Daphie because it reminds me of Daffy Duck or worse "Daftie"

TheHouseOnTheLane · 15/08/2015 15:30

Also I think "Daph" is more likely as a nn which is too like "Kaff" as in Kaffy off Eastenders

HuftysTrain · 15/08/2015 15:31

If you like flowery names, I know a Posy.

CakeRattleandRoll · 15/08/2015 15:47

My favourite is Daphne. Not keen on nn Daphie though. You could just use 'Dee' as a nn.

Love pp suggestion of Tansy.

How about any of the other 'Rose' names - Rosanna, Rosalie, Rosamund?

Noodle1234 · 15/08/2015 16:26

I know a little Primrose nn Prim. I think it's a lovely, very usable name. I think it has the edge on your other names.

Pinkball75 · 15/08/2015 16:28

My DD has one of the more unusual names on the Nameberry list. A few people were quite rude about it, but then I've never really cared for the opinions of others. It suits her perfectly and I'm sure whatever you choose will be perfect.

woodleydoodle · 15/08/2015 16:31

I don't like any of the names. What about Fleur?

Daphnedolittle · 15/08/2015 17:18

I'm not keen on Fleur, it sound like Bleurgh to me. Primrose has got the edge for me at the moment.
I don't mind the other Rose names but don't love any of them enough. I think Rosamund and Rosalind sound very serious and old fashioned.
Rosanna reminds me of that programme! Otherwise it's actually a very pretty name.
