I'm in love with it. Slightly worried that it's my hormones though. My DH really likes it too.
Is it too unusual? I know there are still strong connotations with "the Bear" in my parents generation but I don't really think of that.

It's a fine name. I'd use it for sure.

The bear, I agree with you, but it's a positive association in any case.

roseteapot101 · 06/08/2015 15:12

i think its a lovely name i think the connection to the bear is becoming more distant so should be fine

lillipad21 · 06/08/2015 15:23

Its a lovely name Smilei agree i think the bear connotations are becoming more distant... When i hear Rupert i immediately think of Rupert Grint from Harry Potter, i dont know if that is helpful or not Blush

queentroutoftroutss · 06/08/2015 15:43

I don't like it.

Rosieliveson · 06/08/2015 16:11

Yes, Rupert Grint was the first person I thought of (after the bear) too. It doesn't seem to have done him any harm!

Queen, is there something in particular you don't like (that I might not have thought of) or is it just not to your taste?

BeautifulBatman · 06/08/2015 16:15

I think it's delightful. Smile

zarzu · 06/08/2015 16:15

I think it's a lovely name. Might have to add it to my list hehe

00roversreturn00 · 06/08/2015 16:16

Love it, expecting DD but if it had been DS, Rupert would have been top of my list.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 06/08/2015 16:19

Rupert Giles from Buffy. Marvellous link.

Rosieliveson · 06/08/2015 16:24

I like Buffy too Empress. I might have gone for Angel of DH hadn't vetoed it and the majority of my thoughts about that Angel weren't a bit naughty

Sophronia · 06/08/2015 16:30

I quite like it.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 06/08/2015 16:32

Rosie Grin.

I'd definitely use Rupert then!

Angelto5 · 06/08/2015 16:32

I also instantly think of Giles from Buffy Smile

My ds is named after a Buffy character Grin

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 06/08/2015 16:36

Xander? Spike? Angel?

pinkje · 06/08/2015 16:40

Rupert the Bear is what I think of.

Angelto5 · 06/08/2015 17:49

yes one of those empress Wink

QforCucumber · 06/08/2015 17:55

I like it but couldn't use it personally as a friends spaniel is called it and I'd just think of him haha

CrystalMcPistol · 06/08/2015 17:55

I don't like it. I'd feel very self conscious calling loudly after a Rupert in public.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/08/2015 17:57

I really like it. Simple, rare, with a lovely sound to it

Dreya · 06/08/2015 21:51

I love Rupert. I knew a Rupert growing up. Lovely name. Go for it OP. What are the nn's for Rupert? Roo? Cute.

GreenbackBoogie · 06/08/2015 21:54

I wanted a Rupert nn Roo. DH said absolutely not that it would lead to a lifetime of bullying. I disagree and still love it although we did not use it.

marinacortina · 06/08/2015 22:39

Rupert Everett.
Rupert Penry Jones.
Rupert Graves.

Plenty of cool namesakes there. Love it.

caravanista13 · 06/08/2015 22:50

Oh dear - just me who hates it then. Rupert the bear is fine but otherwise it just conjures up upper class twits.

CrystalMcPistol · 06/08/2015 23:16

It's not just you. I think it's a marmite name.
