What do you honestly think of the name Topsy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
queentroutoftroutss · 06/08/2015 14:35

I actually like it Grin.

tatumsfunkychicken · 06/08/2015 14:36

Agree that it's for a rabbit. Sorry.

SylvanianCaracal · 06/08/2015 14:37

I quite like it, it's the kind of name a child could grow into and would be good for a strong character (though of course you don't know what she'll be like). I'd rather fill in job application with Topsy than be one of 1000s of Lolas and Orlas.

Tops/Toppy/Top are not bad nicknames and very positive!

If you like it, give her a very straightforward, user-friendly middle name (like Elizabeth) so she can switch if she wants.

Ivegottogo · 06/08/2015 14:37

You couldn't take a grown adult with a name like that seriously. In my job I often have to formally introduce people. If they have a name I find funny, I try to avoid it and refer to them as a guest or visitor instead.

SylvanianCaracal · 06/08/2015 14:38

(Though I am a terrible giver of silly nicknames (my poor DC) and would probably have to call her Top Banana)

chocolatedonut · 06/08/2015 14:39

The worst name I've ever herd

TheNumberfaker · 06/08/2015 14:39

Rabbit name and from the children's books/tv series. Just say no to your DH!

Pipbin · 06/08/2015 14:39

It was a great Aunt's name. Not her given name but what everyone called her.

HeyDuggee · 06/08/2015 14:40

Go watch 10 episodes of Topsy & Tim on BBC Iplayer. Then come and tell us how you now feel about the name.

Choccyhobnob · 06/08/2015 14:40

Topsy and Tim....

Fugghetaboutit · 06/08/2015 14:40

Wow. Just wow.

Is it unisex? Sounds like a clowns name.

annandale · 06/08/2015 14:42

What does your dh like about it?

(please choose something else)

CatMilkMan · 06/08/2015 14:42

I like it as much as a landscape CV.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 06/08/2015 14:43

Oh please don't!

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 06/08/2015 14:43

It's not even worthy of the status of nickname - it's a pet name. By all means call your DD Topsy, but don't actually NAME her that.

Fluffy24 · 06/08/2015 14:46

Otherwise known as Lady Theodora Margaret Utterinham-Smythe, best friends with fellow sloan Bunny Waterford-Browne.

Sorry Smile

Finola1step · 06/08/2015 14:46

Does she have a sibling called Turvy?

In all honestly, it may sound cutsey now but could you imagine how she would introduce herself in a professional capacity as an adult?

Use it as a family nickname.

MrsBungle · 06/08/2015 14:48

Horrendous.

ThereIsIron · 06/08/2015 14:49

No. What if she marries into the Turvy family?

reuset · 06/08/2015 14:50

Expecting DC2 and a friend suggested it. Husband loves it but I'm not convinced.

Do you really need to ask! It's utterly bonkers for a human baby, fluffy, flimsy, insubstantial etc etc. Topsy for pets, my response very different.

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2015 14:51

Please dont be ridiculous topsy really say it out loud like this TOPSY come in for your lunch/dinner/tea/supper.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 06/08/2015 14:52

DSis' dog is called Topsy. She has another called Tim. Not really a person's name - sorry! I can't imagine going to see my stockbroker or doctor or lawyer called Topsy.

outtolunchagain · 06/08/2015 14:53

I did know aTopsy once but her real name was Thomasina .

honeyandfizz · 06/08/2015 14:53
