A plain Kate is quite refreshing when compare to some of the floral, fancy and homemade creations out their. Bring back Kate and Jane.

Yes I got a telling off at school for ignoring my biology teacher who was shouting "Catherine"

Majority of Kates I know (born 70s/80s) are not Katherines and I assume just have Kate on the birth certificate

Tbh I just don't see the point in nicknames, if I named her Catherine then surely I'd call her Catherine?

I already have a boy called Tom, just Tom. Not Thomas. So I guess I'm following a trend. Sometimes he gets called Thomas and he asks me why that lady is calling him that.

Kate is beautiful. Classic and classy but can be cool too. But I'm not such a fan of Katie and I would probably go the whole name on the birth certificate, but that's just me.

my bff is called kate and shes a wonderful woman. modest, strong, endearing, friendly, accepting and a beautiful person. she never gets Katie. id go for it.

By calling her Kate, you are giving her no options with it being a name that can't be shortened.

I'm a Kate and only now in my early 30s am I starting to like my name. I always felt a bit cheated of a nice girly name.

A previous poster said something about Kate being unapologetic. That's me... I definitely grew up to be assertive and frank, maybe because from an early age I had to insist to teachers that Kate was my name and that no, I wouldn't answer to Katherine.

Although I now like my name I've actually decided that I will give my children a name they can do something with (ie shorten it or with an obvious nick name).

Seems im outvoted! my SIL is a Katie which I see as a nickname also and as I also love Kathryn but not the nicknames for it. However if you've already gone for a short name for your son I understand you looking for similar.

I like it. It's sophisticated enough to stand alone as a name in its own right.

No, not very keen on Kate on its own.

If I had a DD3 I think she would be Kate. I happen to also like Katherine/Catherine too though so would probably put that on birth certificate.

Interestingly, I do not like 'Cate' at all.

I longed for something exotic when I was young, but now I'm glad I'm plain and simple Kate.
