I really like it. Have DS1 with unusual name which he loves. Just not too sure if too out there, we live in nice area with good schools where newborns all seem to be Harry, George, William, Edward etc!

My first thought was Home and Away, Heath and Biancas son was called Rocco, I like it, use the name if you like it.

BothEndsBurning · 11/07/2015 18:04

Madonna's ancestry is Italian, so I wouldn't see anything odd about her choice.

DurhamDurham · 11/07/2015 18:05

Nothing odd at all about Madonna choosing the name, I just don't like her Grin

BothEndsBurning · 11/07/2015 18:17

Grin Fair enough, but someone said she chose it so it must be naff, or wtte

silveroldie2 · 11/07/2015 19:47

It's horrible but who cares - use it if you want to. There's no point asking for opinions on here and then getting snippy. Don't ask if you don't want people to give their honest opinions.

I have a rocco..do I care what people think no!! If it's good enough for madge it's good enough for my son it really suits him

ThunderbumsMum · 12/07/2015 00:42

La la Rocco's modern life...

Used to like that cartoon.

MrsPeeee · 12/07/2015 08:42

I live in an area with quite a few 'out there' choices so I wouldn't bat an eyelid at Rocco. I met a Wilder the other day. And a Reno.

It's not for me personally as I have a cat called Rocky.

Sparklingbrook · 12/07/2015 08:52

I wouldn't want to call my child what Madonna called hers. Would be like choosing one of the Beckham's kids names. Naff.

ReginaBlitz · 12/07/2015 10:54

So all names that a celeb uses are out of bounds? I chose the name as I love it I also have a Shiloh aren't I a naff oneSmile

Sparklingbrook · 12/07/2015 10:56

No just slebs who are naff Regina Grin

MamaLazarou · 12/07/2015 11:27

I think Rocco will become more popular and will seep into common lexicon.

When a celebrity uses an unusual name, people often decide that as it's been pre-approved as a 'real' name by a famous person, that makes it OK to use.

This may be why you often come across 'celebby' baby names such as Luna or Harlow, but rarely encounter very unusual names like Parsifal or Beulah - because a celebrity has pre-approved a name, an ordinary person can choose something out of the ordinary without sticking their own neck out.

hawkmcqueen · 13/07/2015 23:18

I know a fabulous Rocco, he is half labradoodle and half collie and great company Grin

serin · 13/07/2015 23:47

See, I think of Rocco as quite a posh name, along with Rollo?

Traditional and Catholic.

DH is a teacher in a private boys school and teaches several of them, most older than Madonna's child!

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2015 11:05

Rocco is hardly 'out there'. In 2013 it was the 146th most popular name.

By contrast Andrew was 154th.

-o endings are supposed to be the latest trend in the UK. So I don't think not being Italian, or having Italian heritage is a barrier to using it.

As MamaLazarou says I think its has already seeped in as being a normal name and will be accepted by the current generation of Roccos. Its just the parents who have a problem with it but then that has happened to every generation this century and I can point you to newspaper articles bemoaning the use of names that aren't proper that we wouldn't blink at.
