What can Ted be short for?

I love Ted as a nn for a boy. What else can it be short for other than Edward or Edmund (neither of which I'm keen on). Theodore, I guess, but then we'd risk it being shortened to Theo, which I don't like at all...

Edgar
Edmond
Edric
Edison

Lucie99 · 03/07/2015 19:50

I would automatically assume Edward.

Baguettes · 03/07/2015 19:51

Edward.

tomatodizzymum · 03/07/2015 19:52

Edward and Theodore/Theodora

CityDweller · 03/07/2015 20:04

Ooh, I quite like Edgar! Edison too, but I think DH would veto that (he vetoed Emerson for DC1, which I think is of a similar ilk)

DH just gave me a withering look when I suggested both Edgar and Edison Sad

Edward.
Theodore
It won't get shortened to Theo if you always call him Ted.

mrspremise · 03/07/2015 20:14

Edwin?

silverglitterpisser · 03/07/2015 20:18

Ted is a cool name Smile . Why not just name him that?

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 03/07/2015 20:19

I'd assume Theodore as in Roosevelt.

VivaLeBeaver · 03/07/2015 20:20

Tedbar.

It's a proper name honestly.

thatsshallot · 03/07/2015 20:20

DC2 was going to be Ned as in Edmund after my Irish grandpa, and Ted is a short form too

merrymouse · 03/07/2015 20:22

Eadred
Eadwig

ShadowFire · 03/07/2015 20:25

I heard Teddington being called out in the park today.

I can't be sure, but I suspect that was a nickname.

hollyisalovelyname · 03/07/2015 20:33

Edward.
But you could use it as a slightly shortened version of Thady (possibly)

CityDweller · 03/07/2015 20:52

Shock at Teddington!

OP posts:
Zakken · 03/07/2015 21:02

Edwin, yes that was the other one I was trying to remember.

And refer your DH to Edgar Davids, the coolest man ever to play football in specs.

ShadowFire · 03/07/2015 21:16

I was bit surprised that the autocorrect on my tablet had Teddington in as an actual word, so I googled it.

Apparently Teddington is a village in Gloucestershire. Perhaps young Teddington in the park was named after the village and it wasn't a nickname? It would easily lead to Ted as a nickname though. And he's not likely to be one of 5 Teddington's in his class at school.

MehsMum · 03/07/2015 21:16

I know a Theodore who calls himself Ted, which is all well and good till his mates meet his family, who call him Theo. But if you have a Theodore, and call him Ted, Ted it will be - at least until he's old enough to decide to change it.

CityDweller · 03/07/2015 22:07

Teddington is also a suburb of sw London. A fine, if not particularly inspiring place.

OP posts:
Almahart · 03/07/2015 22:10

Teddington must have been a nickname surely?

Sophronia · 03/07/2015 23:06

I like Edwin, also...

Edsel
Edson

thegreylady · 03/07/2015 23:09

Thaddeus and I think there is an Irish name Tadgh
My dgs is Edward nn Ted.

morethanacondiment · 03/07/2015 23:12

DC2 is a Ted, extended variously to Tedbar, Teddington, Tedbert, Tedster, and...umm...BabyBear.
Awesome name!

CakeRattleandRoll · 04/07/2015 07:54

DS (3) is an Edward, but doesn't actually know that. He assumes his name is Teddy because that is what everyone calls him - so it doesn't matter too much if you don't love the name Edward/Edmund/etc, as you'll rarely actually use it. I think the same would happen if you named him Theodore but always used Ted.

We also call him Teddington, Teddles and Bear. Agree with PP - awesome name!
