And as for Wayne....my pet hate of a name. How can you look at your newborn baby, that little bundle of soft, powder scented skin...the little eyes gently closed, the little pink fingernails....and decide that the perfect name for this tender little creature is 'Wayne" Grin

x2boys · 02/07/2015 18:39

i think there are a few names like that madhen ,brenda maureen, ian alan to name a few.

MadHenLady · 02/07/2015 18:44

Oh gosh yes

Though it's amazing what a small change can do to a name. Like Eileen and Aileen

reuset · 02/07/2015 19:03

Kevins in France, Zakken, my pal told me a Kevin is what they call a wee guy who wears a shell suit and causes trouble at holiday camps on his moto.

This is true. Grin

wallaby73 · 02/07/2015 19:06

Baby Kevin. No. Just....no. On a par with Dwayne.....

elQuintoConyo · 02/07/2015 19:31

DS' best friend is called Kevin. They're 3.5 yo. Kevin's parents hail from Colombia. He is awesome Grin

And because of that, I really can't get funny over the name. I have an uncle Kevin. They're the only two I've ever met. I'm 36 40.

Now, Dean is a great name: "DEAN! Dinner time!"

ShadowFire · 02/07/2015 19:42

Kevin feels very 1970/80's to me. All the Kevin's I've met have been that sort of age.

But, it does not make me think of the book / film that some pp's have mentioned. I've read the book (very memorable), seen the film, but I've come across far too many Kevin's for that book / film to be the first thing I think of when I hear "Kevin".

Not not not Robert, all -bert names are awful imo. Horrible sound.

toffeeboffin · 02/07/2015 21:19

Wow, Gavin Esler is HOT!

hornetgirl · 02/07/2015 21:24

I have a two week old niece called Audrey. I was a little surprised at first but it has really grown on me.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 02/07/2015 21:25

Sorry, I didn't know anything about the book or film.
I was just thinking of random older names. Not old enough to be grandad names, maybe.

I know a 6 year old called Ian.
Still waiting to hear if there any any Colins out there under the age of 10. COLIN! COLIN!

Finola1step · 02/07/2015 21:29

Or Graham.

Flingmoo · 02/07/2015 22:17

Stuart, Geoff, Mark, Phil.. All due a comeback :D

Hepzibar · 02/07/2015 22:23

Mark?

teddygirlonce · 02/07/2015 22:44

Best one night stand of my life (and possibly f**k ever) was called Kevin (Irish). Go for it!

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 02/07/2015 22:47

Went to a very large comp a long long time ago and about 75% of boys were Kevin, Dave or Gary. Girls were mostly Janet, Carol , Jacqueline or Elaine. How about a return of these classic girls' names instead of all the hyphenated chav type names met today?

Prettyinblue · 02/07/2015 22:56

I've always disliked Mark since a boy in my class when we were talking abouth the meaning of our names, at his turn said ' you know mark, like a bit if dirt'. How shit.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 03/07/2015 00:04

Forgot to mention we knew a Malcolm. He would be about 9 now?
Disobedient little s4!/:4...
Never did a single thing his mum or teacher asked.

I worked with a Kevin (Irish background though born in UK) and he was a good bloke. So I'm definitely not anti-Kevin.

I was trying to list all the boys from my class at school in the 90s the other day, and went 'Scott, Keith, Danny, Darryl, Barry, Jason, Kevin...' and DH stopped me and said 'You can REALLY tell you went to school in Essex from that list of names alone'....Confused

I won't have a word against Alan, that was my lovely grandad's name. And Alan Turing.

And I'll sing the praises of Jane till the cows come home. Jane is a great name, also like Janet and Jenny too.

passthewineplz · 03/07/2015 00:25

Just thought of a couple more, Alex, Andrew, Dean, Martin, Phil, Darren and Michael.

KoalaDownUnder · 03/07/2015 06:33

Yuck.

Yes, Kevin is a contemporary of Wayne, Jason, Darren, Troy. Hate all of them, they are the snotty boys I went to school with in the 1980s!

Hikarumba · 03/07/2015 08:07

I know a baby called Mitchel. That was a name around in the seventies. Has it had a resurgence?
