Do you like the name Ianthe?

We are about to have a third daughter. Our first two are Cecily and Emmeline. Having a bit of trouble picking a name for this one! Currently Ianthe is in the lead. What do you think? Others we like include Daisy and Romilly. Any views or suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thanks very much!

I know an ianthe and she is lovely. I struggled to pronounce it at first but is actually simpler than it looks.

lizabeth0607 · 01/07/2015 23:27

How is it pronounced?
I love Daisy Smile

BikeRunSki · 01/07/2015 23:30

Daisy is a bit mainstream in the mix with your other dds names. I also find it a bit twee. I have not come across Ianthe, but my mum would have liked a DD or DGD called Iolanthe.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 01/07/2015 23:31

I'm with lizabeth I'm afraid - no idea how to pronounce it Blush.

I also really like Daisy.

Lizzie1832 · 01/07/2015 23:36

It is pronounced Eye Anth Ee. Does that make any difference to views?

No

lizabeth0607 · 01/07/2015 23:40

It does certainly flow with your other daughters names, however I really like Daisy, maybe because my lovely DD is called Maisie tho? Wink

DancingLady · 01/07/2015 23:42

like it, but like Romilly more. or Romy, or Rowan.

FelixFelix · 01/07/2015 23:42

I don't like it. My name is the exact same name except there's an X in place of the I, so maybe that's why it seems weird to me! I don't think it goes well with your other names.

FelixFelix · 01/07/2015 23:43

Sorry I meant I do think it goes well with your other names though Blush Must go to bed!

MarinaCoyle · 01/07/2015 23:45

It's beautiful. I don't think I've ever come across it before. It flows really well with your other DDs' names too. What a lovely trioSmile

Kefybaby · 01/07/2015 23:45

I like it!

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 01/07/2015 23:48

There is only one Ianthe I've ever heard of in literature or life and she's a cow so I'd veto it.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 01/07/2015 23:48

Thank you for the pronunciation!

Yes, I like it. I would choose Daisy from your three possibilities, but our tastes are different in any case as I would never have gone for the two names you already have (nothing at all wrong with them, just not my thing - and DH would definitely have objected).

FWIW, Ianthe does seem to fit well with Cecily and Emmeline. Just be prepared for incorrect pronunciation from time to time Smile.

Nospringflower · 01/07/2015 23:51

Had never heard of it but was able to guess how to say it and agree - it goes well with your other names. Would never have thought I would be saying I like it but I do!!

Eleleleo · 02/07/2015 00:00

I love it. Would have called DD Iolanthe if DH had agreed. Sadly he knows an Ianthe and felt it would look like we were naming DD after her.

Limer · 02/07/2015 00:01

No no no.

Ian...The.

Zakken · 02/07/2015 00:25

I don't really like it. It sounds a little awkward. I like Anthea which seems to flow better.

Sophronia · 02/07/2015 00:31

I like it and definitely prefer it to Daisy and Romilly. Iolanthe is nice too.

Glitoris · 02/07/2015 00:36

I'll be honest, seeing as you asked for opinions. While I know it's a 'real' name,I think it reads like one of those house names made up from half of one adults name, and half of the other.I think the child would have a lifetime of either A)spelling it for people B) teaching them how to pronounce it or C) explaining why her parents chose it.

I think she's prefer to be named Romily,of your other choices.

Qwebec · 02/07/2015 00:43

Beautiful name!

CakeRattleandRoll · 02/07/2015 01:02

I like it. Definitely the best of your 3 choices - Romilly is too similar to Cecily and I find Daisy a bit girly.

I did also see 'Ian the', which might be a problem, depending on your surname e.g. 'Ian the Baker'.
How about Xanthe?

TheXxed · 02/07/2015 01:12

What about Catriona?

reuset · 02/07/2015 01:55

I find Romilly too similar to both names. Ianthe is ok, though you might find many people haven't heard of it before or know how to pronounce it

andyourlittledogtoo · 02/07/2015 02:06

Yes. Very pretty!
