So having been roundly assured that Tess is not an acceptable nn for Elizabeth Grin what is your favourite shortening of:

Elizabeth/Elisabeth
Alexandra

Thanks

Lexi uber popular now, I know about 5. That may not bother u but I thought I'd mention in case.

bobajob · 28/06/2015 22:40

Elsa, Elsie, Betsy, Libby are all lovely.

Don't really like any for Alexandra though. Alexa maybe. Sandy is kind of retro.

howtodrainyourflagon · 28/06/2015 22:42

I love Tess. Beth is second-best. But Tess is beautiful,. It makes me think of Thomas Hardy, but it's still beautiful.

Alex. I don't like Lexi. It makes me thing of Dyslexia and Alexia.

Libby & Alix

Marymaymay if you want to be Alex, why not change it? People will come around, gradually.

Ausflug · 29/06/2015 07:12

I think it depends on the child a bit. Lots of the nicknames seem to have quite different personalities to me.

If my eldest was called Elizabeth or Alexandra, I'd nickname her Libby or Sasha.

Whereas my youngest would be Lisby, or Sashka, which I don't like quite as much, but just seem to suit her more.

VenusVanDamme · 29/06/2015 07:19

Beth and Alex.

afink · 29/06/2015 07:21

Betsy and Ally.

afink · 29/06/2015 07:22

Ooh, or Bess for Elizabeth.

runningandjumping · 29/06/2015 14:48

Lizzy for Elizabeth and Alexa for Alexandra. Lily for both

fanjodisfunction · 29/06/2015 18:34

I went to school with an Elizabeth and she was known as Libby

and I also went to school with an Alexandra who was known as Xanny.

Twirlypoos · 29/06/2015 18:40

Bea or Betty for Elizabeth

Florencewinifred · 30/06/2015 23:05

Bessie and sasha

polkadotsrock · 30/06/2015 23:57

I have baby Betty and I adore the name, even now 20 months on saying it makes me smile! So I'm tremendously biased. I do know two Elizabeth's who are Biz, but you have to be cool to carry it Wink

LuluJakey1 · 30/06/2015 23:59

I had an aunt whose name was Elisabeth and she was always known as Betbet.

Mehitabel6 · 01/07/2015 00:09

Lizzie and Alex.
I wouldn't worry about it too much- they are likely to pick their own when older. If I was called Betty I would swiftly change it to Liz or Lizzie as soon as I was able.

polkadotsrock · 01/07/2015 00:24

I truly don't like the name Liz at all. It's Corrie that's done it.

Mehitabel6 · 01/07/2015 00:28

I never watch it and so it has no connotations for me.

AlfAlf · 01/07/2015 00:28

Bessie or Lizzie and Alex or Sasha. Really not keen on Lexie.

Mutteroo · 01/07/2015 01:22

Beth (I'm biased). Quite like Betsy too but it feels more like a little girl's name & not sure of I can see an adult called this?
Lexi - Don't care of MNs don't like it. Had DS been born a girl, he would be Alexandra (Lexi)

mathanxiety · 01/07/2015 06:19

Bitta and Alix

SaintEyning · 01/07/2015 06:27

Beth and Sasha

Zakken · 01/07/2015 10:44

Lexi sounds like a car, or a white goods brand.
