I love the name Serenity. I know of an adult with the name Serenity. Smile

BellMcEnd · 25/05/2015 23:12

Love it. My friend's daughter is called Serenity. She's utterly adorable but she's not serene in any way shape or form!

reuset · 25/05/2015 23:18

I suppose it's generally accepted as a name now, but I can't warm to it. Its mainstream use is relatively modern I'm guessing for some reason.

I do like plain Seren more. Or the vaguely, only vaguely, similar Seraphina.

KoalaDownUnder · 26/05/2015 12:34

I don't like it. But I also don't like Felicity, Verity, etc.

Serena, I LOVE. Or Sabine.

NinjaLeprechaun · 27/05/2015 06:17

My daughter has a friend named Serene. She's not.

I might use Serenity and shorten it to Sera. To keep the Firefly theme.

goshhhhhh · 27/05/2015 06:22

Too much to live up to. For instance every Joy I've met has been distinctly joyless - sorry any Joys on here.

NinjaLeprechaun · 27/05/2015 06:22

Which is another consideration - if you use Serenity people will probably assume that you're a fan of Firefly.
Which might confuse, if you're not. Although you should be.

nooka · 27/05/2015 06:25

Serenity Now!

nooka · 27/05/2015 06:26

and no I would not call my dd Serenity

ShadowFire · 27/05/2015 06:36

I love it. I love most virtue names.

But I also prefer names that aren't too unusual, so I probably wouldn't use it on those grounds.

I wouldn't worry too much about Firefly though. I've seen Firefly, I get that reference, but I really don't think Firefly is popular enough for that to be a problem. If you were proposing the name Enterprise, on the other hand... that's one fictional starship you'd never hear the end of....

JassyRadlett · 27/05/2015 07:04

I just hear Frank Costanza shouting 'Serenity Now!' I'm afraid...

MamaLazarou · 27/05/2015 09:02

It's a pretty name but to use it would be tempting fate, I suspect.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 27/05/2015 09:07

I don't like it at all, sorry. However I have a Felicity (a very happy, smiley one Smile) so have against virtue names, I just don't like the word. I like Seren although think it's very popular in Wales. Serena is ok.

Ratbagcatbag · 27/05/2015 09:09

Love it, but have a dh who likes more traditional name.

What about Sienna?

zingally · 29/05/2015 14:29

Chavvy. Sorry.

silveroldie2 · 29/05/2015 20:34

I think Serena is much much nicer.

conniedescending · 29/05/2015 20:37

No and no

It's a bit downmarket. Can you imagine them having a tantrum with that name?

RiverTam · 29/05/2015 20:42

obviously my first thought was Firefly Grin.

don't like it as a name. Or Serena, for that matter, too 1980s rah for me.

BastardGoDarkly · 29/05/2015 20:46

My friend's child is called serenity, it sounds a mouth ful tbh. But I never want to shorten it, as she doesn't.

I prefer seren.

But it's not a ridiculous name.

Radish9 · 30/05/2015 05:05

I like the idea of it, being a Firefly fan. But I heard it being shouted at a toddler at soft play yesterday and it sounded awful in real life. So no, sadly I think it's less useable than I would have initially considered.

sarahbanshee · 30/05/2015 06:56

I will never forget hearing a woman shouting irritably at her kid in Bromley shopping centre " Serenity, will you shut the fack up". I had to go round the corner to laugh so she couldn't see me. I am so not serene, it would be asking to be that woman. I would also rule out: Patience ("Patience, wait! WAIT!") Joy ("stop whinging Joy") and Amity ("Will you leave each other ALONE...!)

ZenNudist · 30/05/2015 07:03

No awful and asking for trouble.

Like Serena (reminds me of gossip girl) also Seren but not so much as bit welsh and I'm English.

Mehitabel6 · 30/05/2015 07:06

No- imagine how she will have to go through life with people making jokes about how she isn't at all like her name!

unluckycat · 30/05/2015 07:09

I like it but think I agree that it's a bit of a mouthful for every day use. So i guess it depends on if you like a shortened version. I'm not a fan of Serena myself.

mrspremise · 30/05/2015 14:24

Jinxing yourselves up for a drama queen/right little madam, IMO... like calling her 'Peace', you just know she'll be a noisy handful! Grin
