toughest challenge yet ladies - boys name with tough criteria

Soooo hubs is English, I'm Scottish, and we need a boys name. I've been flicking through MN now for weeks, but it's the same names over and over... So here's a challenge for you ladies.
Give me your best names based on the following criteria.... I know you can do it. I believe in you!
1 - I'm Scottish, hubs is English, I genuinely don't like traditional English boys names like Harry, Olly etc, he hates overly masculine Scottish names such as Magnus, Fergus (I love Torrin for instance, he thinks it sounds like something you get cream for)
2 - we both want something that's a little unusual but not totally out there.... Names like fox, hunter etc are lovely but too much for a wee boy to live up to in our opinion.
3 - no quirky spellings, it makes our teeth itch
4 - we like the following but they've been ruled out of a variety of reasons; Lachlan, Ethan, Logan, Joshua,
5 - our surname rhymes with.... Erm... Tellers, so names with a prominent L Feel are out... For fear of sounding like Rhianna. Also, no middle names, we won't use em.
6 - massively eloquent names such as Tarquin, Farquhar are way out of our comfort zone
7 - if it's been on MN recently, we've seen it and discounted it!

Your challenge is on..... Help us!

I didn't realise that membership to MN was reserved for the English. Hmm

Raines100 · 28/05/2015 13:01

Of course not. I was making an assumption based on the fact that Mumsnet is a UK website, and the population of England is far larger than the combined populations of Scotland, Wales and NI. Course if half of China are on here too, then that blows my assumption out the water, lol. 'Twas a throw away comment, nothing more.

More to the point, most people seem to have ignored OP's final remark:

"If it's been on MN recently, we've seen it and discounted it!"

So there's no point in rolling out the same old same old.

Mamiof3 · 28/05/2015 16:50

Lars is an ace name

I also secretly want a Ds called Thor

WankerDeAsalWipe · 28/05/2015 17:06

The OP did not discount Scottish names and had some on her list of like but couldn't use, she just didn't want the overtly "hairy arsed highlander" type of names. I know she didn't want ones that are constantly featuring on MN but not all the posters in the thread will have read all the baby names threads and been able to recall everything that has been mentioned (and over what timescale?)

These might not meet all the criteria but they are names I only know one off (other than really ethnic names from non UK cultures) so might be something.

LynetteScavo · 28/05/2015 18:04

Well, I really like "hairy arsed highlander" names.

And North London names.

Crispin is bloody awful!

WankerDeAsalWipe · 28/05/2015 18:16

me too Lynette - I used the phrase to illustrate the type of names the OP didn't want. We are all allowed our own taste and a PP indicated that the OP had said no Scottish names which she didn't.

As for Crispin - wouldn't be my choice either but that was a list of names that I only know one off. We don't really know yet if anything is meeting the OPs criteria as she hasn't been around too much.

LynetteScavo · 28/05/2015 18:34

well, the OP is wrong.

And I've a new phrase in my vocab. Grin

One day there will be a MN named baby...the OP will put in her criteria, and the most mentioned name is the one she HAS to name her child. It will be ace. (Or Struan, if going by this thread Grin)

Gregory.

But I bet the OP and her DH go for Thomas. I bet you anything.

And what happened to baby name dictionaries? If it's been peddled out on MN recently, there isn't going to be anything new today. You need to get yourself to Waterstones, OP.

LynetteScavo · 28/05/2015 18:38

Carson

WankerDeAsalWipe · 28/05/2015 18:40

We didn't have the internet in my baby naming days - we had to look in the books or use our own resources (Maps and the graduation pages from the Scotsman in my case :o )

LynetteScavo · 28/05/2015 18:43

Glen. (Have consulted my copy of Oxford Dictionary of First Names for you)

florascotia · 28/05/2015 18:49

Going back somewhat, but can't believe Albus. It's a Roman cognomen (surname/nickname) and simply means 'white' . It's like calling a baby 'White' today.

(I mean, of course I believe the poster who mentioned it, but why would anyone do that, and ignore genuine and (IMHO) nicer first names based on the same root, such as Alban or Aubin??)

rolypolydoll · 28/05/2015 18:58

Irvin/ Irvine

WankerDeAsalWipe · 28/05/2015 19:08

it was me (the Albus post) and was shouted through Sainsbos (not even Waitrose Shock ) last week. Unfortunately I didn't see the owner or shouter (different aisles)

RedToothBrush · 28/05/2015 19:39

Erm...

What's an overtly "hairy arsed highlander name" is its not Macgregor?!

Sometimes baby names is baffling in its logic.

WankerDeAsalWipe · 28/05/2015 19:46

AS I've already said, the list I posted was a list of names I only know one of, i specifically said that they were not necessarily in keeping with the OPs criteria. I'd also put Lachlan in the same camp but OP likes that. Op hasn't been back so we have no idea if anyone is in the right direction or not.

ImpatiencePersonified · 03/06/2015 13:02

Sorry ladies, OP, i.e. Me, has been sunning herself in Turkey while you've all been working hard for me!
Sad to say, we're still undecided; there's just nothing we can agree on.... It's not you, it's us!

Thanks for trying,

Hope you had a good holiday, thought you'd been so disgusted with the quailty of our output, you'd decided not to come back. :o

How about something a bit more unusual, sorry i've not read it all back again but:
