toughest challenge yet ladies - boys name with tough criteria

Soooo hubs is English, I'm Scottish, and we need a boys name. I've been flicking through MN now for weeks, but it's the same names over and over... So here's a challenge for you ladies.
Give me your best names based on the following criteria.... I know you can do it. I believe in you!
1 - I'm Scottish, hubs is English, I genuinely don't like traditional English boys names like Harry, Olly etc, he hates overly masculine Scottish names such as Magnus, Fergus (I love Torrin for instance, he thinks it sounds like something you get cream for)
2 - we both want something that's a little unusual but not totally out there.... Names like fox, hunter etc are lovely but too much for a wee boy to live up to in our opinion.
3 - no quirky spellings, it makes our teeth itch
4 - we like the following but they've been ruled out of a variety of reasons; Lachlan, Ethan, Logan, Joshua,
5 - our surname rhymes with.... Erm... Tellers, so names with a prominent L Feel are out... For fear of sounding like Rhianna. Also, no middle names, we won't use em.
6 - massively eloquent names such as Tarquin, Farquhar are way out of our comfort zone
7 - if it's been on MN recently, we've seen it and discounted it!

Your challenge is on..... Help us!

Loads of these suggestions are very Scottish!

How about Broderick (as in Crawford)

Or a simple name - James or John

ceeveebee · 24/05/2015 22:07

We have a Roddy (Roderick) which I think is a Scottish name - although neither DH or I have any Scottish links, we just liked the name.

I'm massively drawn to the Scottish ones but alas hubs really isn't comfortable with them - they sound a bit odd in his accent which I get.

Really like Rowan but worried with it being unisex that he might come across a female version at school.... Odd worry I know but it's in my mind!

The Finlay, Brodie and Noah crew are strong up here, and I could throw a stone out of my window and hit at least three of each ( I wouldn't like.. I'm not mental).

I've not met a Brodie yet

Montgomery is a great name

Or a classic that you can then argue over nicknames for? Like Alexander

Re middle names. I had a colleague pull me aside and make a plea for my unborn child that I give them a nice sensible middle name that they can switch to if they hate their first name. He was traumatised by his big standard first name for some reason and Jd swapped to his other big standard middle name!!

I don't think Alastair is massively Scottish. Go on, you know you want to...

Steph1502 · 24/05/2015 22:22

At one of the toddlers groups we attend there's a wee boy called Struan which I thought was very different. Scottish too. Also my best friend called her wee boy Stuart. Good luck xx

It's Keir not Kier :) , but it's a great name. I have a Ciar instead - pronounced the same but is the Gaelic unlengthened version of Ciaran.

Struan

I could swap you some Max's!

It's annoying when a name is ruled out because someone you know (and dislike) has the name!!

Have you managed to add any to your short list?

You could go totally off piste and look at Italy/France/Germany etc
