Im expecting dd2. Married to a French man and currently living in France....

I really like the the name Capucine but Im Not sure how it will be received in England. We don't have any plans to move back but you never know...

Do you think people will pronounce it like Capuccino minus the o?

I'd have thought it was pronounced like cappuccino minus the o, tbh. How do you pronounce it?

MmeLindor · 15/05/2015 18:34

I think most people will say 'capuccin(o)' tbh.

There are lovely names that are very French but not as difficult to pronounce as this.

WhyAspoonCousin · 15/05/2015 18:34

That's how I would say it (in a brummie accent) how do you say it?

peachypips · 15/05/2015 18:34

How do you pronounced it? I assumed cappuccino without the o!

SwedishEdith · 15/05/2015 18:35

How else would you pronounce it? It's lovely but very French for England, I'd thinnk.

thatstoast · 15/05/2015 18:35

I thought it was a monkey but itse spelt differently.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 15/05/2015 18:35

Not sure it translates into English very well. It's the name of a breed of monkey isn't it?

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 15/05/2015 18:36

Cross post

ginmakesitallok · 15/05/2015 18:36

I immediately thought of the monkey too

Penfold007 · 15/05/2015 18:36

Yes I think it will be pronounced like cappuccino.minus the o. I'm not sure I'd name a daughter after a flower or a monks hood.

fortunately · 15/05/2015 18:36

Monkey.

LagerthaEarlIngstad · 15/05/2015 18:36

First thought was monkey sorry

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 15/05/2015 18:37

Monkeys and coffees were my two first thoughts. So how do you say it?

DoTheDuckFace · 15/05/2015 18:38

Another one who thought cappuccino with no o.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 15/05/2015 18:38

That's what I'm thinking too... It's more of a seen rather than cheeen sound at the end.

Might have to keep it for a middle name or a cat

I really do want something that will sound more or less the same in both languages... Dd1 is Margot. We also like Inès, Manon and Clementine.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Oh, the monkey is named after the monks so there is a connection?

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 15/05/2015 18:40

Definitely saving it for a pet monkey then!

LOVE Manon, reminds of Manon De Sources.

The only book I've ever read in French!

peachypips · 15/05/2015 18:42

LoveClementine!

Gunpowder · 15/05/2015 18:43

I think it's really pretty but I thought of the monkey too! I like your other suggestions and think they cross the channel better.

SquirmOfEels · 15/05/2015 18:45

I thought of monkey, monk or coffee (sorry)

I don't think Ines will be pronounced properly in England (but if you don't mind correcting people this isn't really an issue).

I like Manon (and know one of primary age) but it might sound wrong in anglophone countries because of the 'man' bit.

Clementine is fine (with the French connection, it's likely people will go for -teen, not -tyne)

ICUB4UCMe · 15/05/2015 18:54

I love the name Capucine. I knew a little girl with the name and once I knew how to say it it was simple. I LOVE it! I've even recommended it on MN before. If you have a French DH then it's not exactly odd for your DD to have a French name.

Cap poo sin

VixxFace · 15/05/2015 18:58

As in the coffee like drink?

FatherHenderson · 15/05/2015 19:01

Vivienne?

FatWalda · 15/05/2015 19:04

Fifty years ago everybody in the UK would have pronounced it Capu-seen.

As you are in France, I think it would be OK anyway. If she did go to live in an anglophone country, some people would get it wrong at first but that's soon put right.
