Valme comes from what King Ferdinand III the Saint said when trying to conquer Seville from the moors in 1248, asking for Our Lady’s help: "¡Váleme, Señora, que si te dignas hacerlo, en este lugar te labraré una capilla, en la que a tus pies depositaré como ofrenda, el pendón que a los enemigos de España y de nuestra Santa Fe conquiste!". Basically, help me during the battle and I’ll built a church in this spot.
