Spanish boy and girl names

I am 6m pg and we don't know whether we're having a boy or girl, me and DH are looking for some baby name inspiration.

It has to be Spanish based due to family and location. We don't want something TOO popular (for example Eva) but aren't bothered if it's just a well known or commonly heard name.

Has anyone got any suggestions? TIA Smile

bluejam, I'm Spanish and for girls I love medieval namesor not-very-well-known Our Lady's dedications. This is my list for girls (sadly, have not used any of them, as only have two DDs and went for my own name and DH's, a Brit, granny's). Hope you like them.

Valme
Our Lady of Valme is the co-saint patron of Dos Hermanas, in Seville. Valme comes from what King Ferdinand III the Saint said when trying to conquer Seville from the moors in 1248, asking for Our Lady’s help: "¡Váleme, Señora, que si te dignas hacerlo, en este lugar te labraré una capilla, en la que a tus pies depositaré como ofrenda, el pendón que a los enemigos de España y de nuestra Santa Fe conquiste!". Basically, help me during the battle and I’ll built a church in this spot.

Mencía
Medieval name, used at the time in Castile and Navarra, means hill.

Guiomar
Medieval name, used at the time throughout Spain and also Portugal, probably derived Wigmar (German, famous in the battle). Spanish poet Antonio Machado used this name for her loved one, Pilar de Valderrama, in his poetry.

Gadea
Medieval name, old form of Agata (Agatha). Reminiscent of El Cid legends (la Jura de Santa Gadea).

Jimena (or Ximena)
Medieval name, uncertain origin, some say could be a very old feminine form of Simon.

Gádor
Our Lady of Gádor, saint patron of Berja, in Almería. Gádor is also a mountain in Almería.

Valvanera
Our Lady of Valvanera, the saint patron of La Rioja region.

Valvanuz
Our Lady of Valvanuz, saint patron of the pasiegos (peasants) of Cantabria.

Covadonga
Our Lady of Covadonga, saint patron of Asturias, The name comes from the latin ‘cova dominica’ (Our Lady’s cave) as medieval legends say Our Lady helped Don Pelayo’s Christian troops in a battle in the 8th century.

PS - will think about boy's names later. I do not like boys names!

Ah X-Post sorry. We can't use Alejandro even though it is one of my favourite names for family reasons unfortunately. Really like Ana too. Love love love Mariela, would have to be the one 'l' for pronunciation sakes or everyone would call her Marry-eh-yuh haha!

timely Thats a great idea, thank you. I would ideally prefer a Spanish name but will have a look now, thanks!

Would you consider names that are popular in Spain but not necessarily Spanish in origin? Maybe check out the top 100 names in Spain?
