Didn't you like Baxter? Sad

BlackberryandNettle · 01/05/2015 21:20

Sorry to hear you're still undecided! Are you even leaning towards anything? For what it's worth I like Rory or Adam or Daniel. Would avoid from your original list Charles as flows oddly with Jones, also David makes me think of Davie Jones' locker. Avoid names beginning with B (BJ). Sorry if that sounds negative!

AwfulBeryl · 01/05/2015 21:28

Dylan
Hugo
Milo
Jude
Rex
Max is lovely, I know a lovely lovely Max.

Bellejournee · 03/05/2015 11:05

What name did you go with in the end?

cece · 03/05/2015 11:21

We had similar situation but ended up going with Tom. Obviously this won't work for you. FWIW I think John Jones sounds cool.

Gregory
Victor
Rory
Christian
Samuel
Ethan
Nathan
Finley

or something really off beat like Warwick or Roman

Max is also lovely.

ghostspirit · 03/05/2015 12:24

Dominic or Gregory sound good with Jones. No J, not welsh, not marmaduke! 3 syllables with one syllable. Don't go for anything too of the moment because he'll have to tell the bank, no, not that Harry Jones, the one born in 2015, no, that's still not right....

StampysLoveGarden · 03/05/2015 12:30

John Jones sounds terrible! Don't do that!

switchitoff · 03/05/2015 12:39

As you have a common surname, I would go with something slightly less common as a first name. Whatever you do, don't choose Sam - we know/have come across at least 7 Sam Joneses!! I'd also be drawn to a long-ish first name, just to give the full name some balance.

Nathaniel
Rupert
Alistair
Fergus
Patrick
Christian

WireCat · 03/05/2015 12:45

Sebastian
Theo

AwfulBeryl · 03/05/2015 12:47

What's wrong with John Jones ? I don't think the double J sounds wrong in anyway.
I love the name John, although for some reason I prefer the spelling Jon.

StampysLoveGarden · 03/05/2015 18:15

It's like Pepe Sanchez, John Smith. Nothing wrong with it I guess, it's just walking in to a name with 500 others with the same name

IvoryMadonna · 03/05/2015 19:06

Surely John is quite uncommon now.

Gintonic · 04/05/2015 22:00

Ellory?

ghostspirit · 05/05/2015 11:43

my dads name was john so cant use that any way :)

im still thinking max. several people are saying they dont like it. and my daughter says it sounds like a dogs name :(

MonstrousRatbag · 05/05/2015 11:52

Max Hayden Jones sounds very nice.

Also:
Maddox
Gilbert
Henry/Harry
Hector
Edward/Teddy
Arden
Philip (nickname Pip?)
Peter (!)

IvoryMadonna · 05/05/2015 18:40

You like Max, so go for it. It's a good name, suits all ages.

Yes, it's quite popular for dogs, but most dogs are given human names now. That fashion may change. I know several dogs called Molly, Rosie or Tilly, but you don't hear people saying those are dogs' names.

maroonedwithfour · 05/05/2015 18:45

Kit Jones
Oscar Jones
Max Jones
Rufus/Rupert Jones
Harry Jones
William Jones
Alistair Jones
Charlie Jones

girliefriend · 05/05/2015 18:52

Daniel nn Danny, I think Danny Jones sounds cool.

If you like Max go for it though.

How about Alfie?

Rex? (Don't think your dd would approve though Wink)

Harry/Henry?

AwfulBeryl · 05/05/2015 18:53

It doesn't matter if other people don't like it, it's none of their business. Max is Lovely, it goes nicely with your last name. If you like it then go for it.

stormyboots · 05/05/2015 21:53

Maximilian Jones sounds distinguished!
or
Charles
Michael
Gabriel
Alexander
Barnaby

If a name is really not coming to you, maybe take a few days off from thinking about, hopefully baby's personality will then help point you in the right direction!

FizzyGreenWater · 05/05/2015 23:33

I think a long or slightly unusual first name with Jones is great. It balances the plain, short surname and can sound like a cool cowboy in a film :)

Hector Jones
Barnaby Jones
Rufus Jones
Felix Jones

Or more traditional longer names sound good:
Alexander Jones
Dominic Jones
William Jones

As nothing suggested upthread has got you except Max, you could go for that, but I agree it sounds too short on its own. How about Magnus Jones? Does that have a similar feel?

You've got ages yet, don't panic!

Marmaduke123 · 06/05/2015 19:11

Samuel Jones
When I asked a 4 year old what his name was at work, he said 'I am Samuel Jones' (with hands on hips).
