I really love Lettie, but can't use Violet as a 'proper' name because our surname is a noun. I don't like Letticia at all. Can anyone come up with an alternative longer name that Lettie could be a nn for?

Or any similar names I might like?!

Why does it have to be a nn?
Can it not be the given name?

karmagetsyou · 18/04/2015 15:49

What's wrong with just Lettie.

My name is short for something but I am christened it. It's my name. Smile

duckfilledfattypuss · 18/04/2015 15:49

How about Colette?

makingthisupasigoalong · 18/04/2015 15:53

Laetitia. French name I think

Oops. Just re-read your post. How about Charlotte?

SoftSheen · 18/04/2015 15:55

Lettie is usually short for Laetitia/ Letitia/ Lettice (all pronounced similarly).

OurGlass · 18/04/2015 15:55

Lettuce is actually a name..

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 18/04/2015 15:57

Please don't use Lettie as a given name, especially with the ie ending - it's cute for a child and great as an nn but risks being twee for an adult. Colette is lovely and then at least she has choices as an adult (or if at any point she gets nicknamed Lettuce).

badtime · 18/04/2015 15:57

It was usually spelled 'Lettice', and pronounced 'le-TEECE'.

How about Arlette or Nicolette, or Aleta?

squoosh · 18/04/2015 16:01

What about something like Juliet?

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 18/04/2015 16:06

I love Letty as a nn for Juliet!

Will keep this in mind for imaginary dd2!

KipperTheFish · 18/04/2015 16:09

Ooh I really like Juliet and Charlotte, and wouldn't have thought of them, thanks.

Scarlet?

SunnyBaudelaire · 18/04/2015 16:12

Lettuce is not a name! It is Lettice or Letitia!

BreeVDKamp · 18/04/2015 16:13

Lettice! Love that name but not brave enough.

bluewisteria · 18/04/2015 16:14

Letice, which is my spelling, Leti is my nn but I have never really been called my full name. I love my name, and never met another one! Use it!! I always receive many complements.

I don't know a Charlotte nn lette but I do know a Colette ( several actually, Letice is far more unusual).

Also, it means happiness, which is lovely.

BrambleBee · 18/04/2015 16:14

I know 2 Letties, their full names are Nicolette (who also gets called 'Nicorette' so maybe avoid that one) and Scarlett.

balletgirlmum · 18/04/2015 16:15

I would say Letitia

OurGlass · 18/04/2015 16:15

Sunny, auto correct changed it. I'm sure everyone knows it's Lettice!

SunnyBaudelaire · 18/04/2015 16:16

well....lol...

FluffyTheEvilOne · 18/04/2015 16:17

Oddly enough, one of my first thoughts on seeing Lettie was Harriet, even thgh obviously it doesn't have an L in it. Charlotte and Colette are lovely names too.

I agree that Lettie doesn't really work as a name in itself, as I struggle to associate it with an adult, although it's cute for a child.

KipperTheFish · 18/04/2015 16:17

Scarlett! Also lovely. Fantastic, thanks. Smile

Like Colette, lovely.

KipperTheFish · 18/04/2015 16:20

I like Hattie and Hettie too, with Harriet as full name. I am trying to be mindful of the 'grown up' not just the child.
