Leo or Theo?

Just that really? I don't think we would put the long versions on the birth certificate (well I might but DH def wouldn't) and the middle name would probably be either George or Thomas. So what do you think?

Leo Thomas
Theo George
Theo Thomas

They are both nice but I prefer Leo.

Leo to me is a more lively and dynamic name.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 14:58

I like them both equally so would probably toss a coin. As that's how all names should be decided!

And then I'd probably keep tossing the coin till the coin said Theo.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 14:59

And now I agree with Monica so have switched my allegiances to Leo.

Sorry Theo!

00100001 · 16/04/2015 15:00

Why not Leo George?

00100001 · 16/04/2015 15:01

also - just as an aside.

If you choose the short version, be prepared for your sin to be called "Theodore/Leonard" a lot :)

Sophronia · 16/04/2015 15:02

I much prefer Leo. Leo Thomas is great.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 15:03

I'd never expect a Leo to be a Leonard but might expect a Theo to be a Theodore.

Serafinaaa · 16/04/2015 15:03

Leo is easier to say but I like both.

HubertCumberdale · 16/04/2015 15:05

theodore and leonard both lovely. Think I prefer Thea.
Leonard may become really popular because of Dicaprio and Big Bang Theory?

HubertCumberdale · 16/04/2015 15:05

*Theo. Although Thea is a nice girl's name!

squoosh · 16/04/2015 15:05

DiCaprio is a Leonardo.

Choccyhobnob · 16/04/2015 15:08

0100001 Only because we'd pretty much settled on Leo Thomas but Theo has crept in there and not sure Thomas goes so well with it so would maybe go with George if we did pick Theo.

Think I still prefer Leo though actually Smile. Find out the sex on Saturday so may not need either! Have 99% picked our girl's name.

Theo!! It's a possibility for my DS1, I would use nn Ted and possibly register as Theodore just to allow more options when older Smile

Notso · 16/04/2015 16:09

Theo. Love it and wanted to use it but it sounds wrong with our surname.

I also love George so Theo George gets my vote.

I don't like Leo much it's the Lee part I think. I do lie Leonard though.

Notso · 16/04/2015 16:10

Hmm I don't lie much I do like Leonard though.

IvoryMadonna · 16/04/2015 16:13

Leo, but I'd give Leonard so he can be Leon or Len if he prefers. He's the one who has to live with the name, so he should have a bit of choice.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 16:21

I think Leo is fine as a name all by itself. People don't always need choice.

IvoryMadonna · 16/04/2015 16:26

I speak as someone who was given no choice. There is absolutely nothing that can be done with my name, and I wasn't even given a middle name. It's all right if you like your name, but I don't like mine I would never do that to a child. Everyone deserves a choice, even if they don't exercise it.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 16:29

I don't have a choice either, I just have a name. Does every name need 'options'?

What about one syllable names like John or Jane?

IvoryMadonna · 16/04/2015 16:39

They can be Jo, Johnny, Janey, J. And most people are given middle names as well.

squoosh · 16/04/2015 16:43

Yes the OP says Leo will be Leo Thomas. Plenty of options there for him.

Choccyhobnob · 16/04/2015 17:00

I think if I was going to give a full name it will be Leonardo (but like I said Dh won't have it!). Do you think Leo works at all ages? I suppose Leonardo DiCaprio is 40 odd now and Leo still works for him!

I prefer Theo Smile

I get what 0100001 was saying about thinking it's short for something. My name is usually used as a shortened version - people including the council tax people assume and I have to correct them which is annoying. Although I don't think you'd have too much trouble with Leo/Theo.

applecatchers36 · 16/04/2015 18:02

I prefer Leo

evertonmint · 16/04/2015 18:07

I have a Leo. Never ever been called Leonard, and only one person ever asked if it was his full name, because that's pronounced differently without the o.
