Can't decide!

What do you think when you hear these names?

Hyacinth does sound beautiful though....

Hyacinth is very different to the other two.

How did you choose them?

MrsBungle · 03/04/2015 22:08

I quite like Mabel. Hyacinth - hmm. Vera - absolutely not. You cannot inflict Vera on your poor child.

swampytiggaa · 03/04/2015 22:08

I know a Mabel. She is 6 and very lovely.

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2015 22:08

Same as Gemerama.

To me, Mabel is the only one that's vaguely usable.

Just not a fan of granny chic names, sorry!

lastfanjoinparis · 03/04/2015 22:10

I took names that I thought of as ugly and tried to see why they might be appealing. These three really grew on me but Beryl, Gladys and Phyllis didn't.

Isn't Hyacinth a boy's name?

Definitely granny-tactic though.

My gran was Vera and my great aunt was Mabel. I'm 51.

rockinrobintweet · 03/04/2015 22:11

shamefully im in agreement with other posters. how could you nickname Hyacinth??

Cinthia??

RJnomore · 03/04/2015 22:12

Veronica? Nn Vera?

RJnomore · 03/04/2015 22:13

Hyacinth -Cynthia

lastfanjoinparis · 03/04/2015 22:16

Hyacinth started off as a boys name but is now unisex.

Ya-ya is a good nn.

But I like it in its entirety.

What's wrong with Vera?

It sounds similar to Eva. Its a beautiful sounding name.

cosmicglittergirl · 03/04/2015 22:17

Mabel is cute. Vera is a bit harsh.
Hyacinth is twee.

lastfanjoinparis · 03/04/2015 22:17

Another option is Maudie?

I know a Mabel under 2 and I was going to call ds (2) this. Lovely.

Vera has grown on me

Hyachinth, just vile really. There are so many gorgeus flower names.

0ldF0x · 03/04/2015 22:21

Vera - very harsh. Véro is softer but it would be a bit pretensh.

Mabel - very pretty imo. I also like Meryl and even Beryl! I like the sounds.
Hyacinth! oh I'm sorry, i can only think of hyacinth bouquet. It is a lovely flower though.

Finola1step · 03/04/2015 22:23

Mabel is lovely. I know a v young Mabel and she's fab. Go for it.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 03/04/2015 22:23

I've only met one Hyacinth irl and he was a he (around 16 yrs old I believe). Mainly I just think of Hyacinth Bucket.

To my mind Mabel is a name for a cow.

Vera sounds quite sophisticated - along the same lines as Ava.

CrispyFern · 03/04/2015 22:24

I like Vera and Mabel, they both have a few easy nicknames, short, sweet yet not cutesy, easy to spell, easy to learn to write. Yeah, lots of positive points.

Hyacinth is awful.

OublietteBravo · 03/04/2015 22:25

I like Vera (I prefer Phyllis though). Mabel is nice too...

I don't like Hyacinth.

netty7070 · 03/04/2015 22:26

Vera duckworth
hyacinth bouquet
mabel is the nicest but still very old ladyis.

MadameJosephine · 03/04/2015 22:30

I like Vera, not keen on the other two. I also like Rita, Valerie and Audrey

storytopper · 03/04/2015 22:32

I know people who have French bulldogs and these old lady names (and old man names) are what they use for puppies.

Can't help seeing little squashy faces and bandy legs.

Sorry, OP.

Janethegirl · 03/04/2015 22:35

Hell no! Sorry that's just cruel.

Veronica, Hazel, or Margaret (sticking with the original consonants) are much better.

I'm sure there are better options though Easter Grin
