With Aoife, I imagine a lifetime of her saying "A-O-I-F-E". I vote Anna.

TheOriginalWinkly · 31/03/2015 21:34

I love Aoife but if you're not in Ireland I would go with Anna

lexie3 · 31/03/2015 21:34

I love Anna, although i think it is even nicer as a nickname for something longer, like Annalise or Annabel!

Eigg · 31/03/2015 21:34

They are both lovely.

A friend has an adorable little Aoife, no one seems to have much trouble with either pronouncing or spelling it.

Janinec123 · 31/03/2015 21:38

We are in Ireland so Aoife wouldn't be a problem that way

Have you found picking names difficult? I never thought it would be so difficult!!! Wine

I love Aoife, gorgeous name!.

I find Anna a bit bland.

NoseyParka · 01/04/2015 06:27

Aoife, 100%

Janinec123 · 01/04/2015 15:02

Yes really starting to feel possibly Aoife!!

Aoife! Lovely name

Janinec123 · 02/04/2015 17:33

Thanks for all feedback!! Can't wait to meet our little bundle. Are you all sorted with names??

Aoife. Anna is bland.

I know you're in Ireland but I hate the attitude on here that one must choose the easiest name for English people.

It's always the same when someone posts about Welsh names too.

Janinec123 · 03/04/2015 16:31

It can be difficult to say some names with their spelling but in my opinion in most cases you verbally tell someone your name and they get it. I think with Aoife it's actually an easy one to say when you hear it. I really do find it hard to choose between them though.

Definitely Aoife. Loverly-sounding name, and because there are a few around in the UK these days (tho' don't worry it doesn't seem to be "trending") so people will know how to spell it.

Anna is one of my least favourite names, as I 'm fond of saying on here! I just don't get the appeal - it's really smug -sounding IMO.

Good Luck with the choice.

Floggingmolly · 03/04/2015 19:58

English people just can't get their tongues around Aoife, though, Alisvolat
I speak from experience... Wink

C0w · 03/04/2015 21:06

Where I am, Anna is more unusual anyway.

LadyCatherineDeTurd · 04/04/2015 09:37

Both gorgeous. As you're in Ireland, the main downside of Aoife is removed, so I'd go for that. Wanted to use it myself actually, but it doesn't go with surname.

As for not liking the idea of having to make things easier for English people, I get that, but equally there are plenty of us with experience of having to spell out our own or our children's names all the time, and it can be quite the irritation. I like Welsh names and gave mine Irish ones, but don't underestimate it. I don't think this is a peculiarly English phenomenon either, I don't suppose I'd fare any better if I lived in France or Japan or anywhere really.

Janinec123 · 04/04/2015 10:26

My thoughts exactly!!! If you don't mind me asking what irish names did you use??

I have always liked them and we also thought of Kate yesterday as an option. The more you think of the more difficult it becomes!!

OP posts:
Trooperslane · 04/04/2015 10:29

Love them both.

Adding Aoife to my list too Grin

Janinec123 · 04/04/2015 11:01

It is nice and girly!! Have you many on your list?

OP posts:
wherehavemyboobsgone · 04/04/2015 11:23

Both lovely, prefer Aoife though. I'd love it for my list actually. We're in Northern Ireland and not religious so not sure how taboo it would be to 'pick a side'.. The joy of living her! X

SunnyBaudelaire · 04/04/2015 11:26

I love Aoife, really lovely name.

SunnyBaudelaire · 04/04/2015 11:27

and speaking as an English person, it is not that hard!
